Subject: World Class Gymnast Kurt Thomas Vaults Into History

Kurt Thomas, the first American gymnast to win a gold medal at the World Championships, died Friday of an undisclosed illness. He was only 64. Thomas won a handful of competitions, but his Olympic dreams were dashed by the 1980 Boycott of the Moscow Games, due to the Russian invasion of Afghanistan. He will be missed by the gymnastics community.
