Bill Withers, the acclaimed 1970s soul singer behind hits Ain't No Sunshine and Lean On Me has died from heart complications aged 81, his family said. The singer died on Monday in Los Angeles, the family told the Associated Press. They described him in a statement as a "solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world". "He spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other," the statement said.

“Use Me” was about as funky as you could get in the 70s. 8)

RIP. Timeless voice. My favorites were "Lovely Day" and "Just The Two Of Us" with Grover Washington Jr.

"Ain't No Sunshine" was all over the radio in the summer of 1971. Stephen Stills played guitar on it.

My parents were big fans of 60s/70s music (since that's when they grew up), and many of the songs from then were from Bill Withers. He certainly had a lot of their favorites. A legend that will never be forgotten, RIP :\'(.

My favorite has always been "Lovely Day". :)
First time I heard Lovely Day was the version by the CCM group Out Of Eden. They did a good job covering it.
