Though best known for "Stacy's Mom," he also wrote and sang the theme to the Beatlesque musical comedy That Thing You Do. He was 52.
Curiously, That Thing You Do was written and directed by Tom Hanks, who also played their Brian Epstein-esque manager.

I knew he was the actual (real-life) vocalist on the recording of the song "That Thing You Do", before becoming a member of the alternative band Fountains Of Wayne.
So sad that the nasty ol' virus killed him. :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'(
