California daredevil, flat-earth aficionado, and amateur rocketeer Michael “Mad Mike” Hughes has expired after a hard landing from his homemade, steam powered rocket in the Mojave Desert. :\'(

Apparently the rocket’s parachute deployed and detached 2 seconds after liftoff, and the rocket continued to climb for a bit. Then it came down, near-vertical, and augered itself into the ground.
The flight was part of Mike’s quest to prove that the Earth is really a flat disk 💾 and not a spherical globe. 🌏
