We missed this one over the holiday. William Ruckelshaus, who famously resigned rather than fire Watergate independent prosecutor Robert Bork in what became known as the Saturday Night Massacre, has died. He was 87.

A Republican, he was the first head of the EPA and championed environmental causes (something unthinkable today). Reagan asked him back after a corruption scandal involving Anne Gorsuch (mother of current Supreme Court justice Neil Gorsuch).

RIP to an incorruptible American hero.
