John Carl Buechler (pronounced "Beekler") -- a legendary special effects artist whose work has appeared in sequels in all three major slasher franchises (Halloween 4 & 6, Elm Street 4, Freddy's Dead, Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood) -- has died from cancer. He was 66.
In addition to his makeup work, he also directed Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (Kane Hodder's debut as Jason), Troll, and three episodes of Land of the Lost (1991). He also played Jack Cracker in Adam Green's Hatchet (for which he also created the effects) and Hatchet II (for which he did not).
After his cancer diagnosis, his wife set up a GoFundMe page to pay for his medical expenses. It has now been turned into a memorial fund.
RIP John Buechler. :(
