George Herbert Walker Bush, 41st President of the United States, and father to 43rd President George W. Bush, has died. He was 94.

His lack of sure-footedness in the face of a faltering economy produced a nosedive in the soaring popularity he enjoyed after the triumph of the Persian Gulf War. In 1992, he lost his bid for a second term as president.
“It’s a mixed achievement,” said presidential historian Robert Dallek. “Circumstances and his ability to manage them did not stand up to what the electorate wanted.”

First Lady Barbara Bush, died in April.

End of an era. “41” was the last man standing amongst the adversaries of his day.  Tojo, Hirohito, Quaddaghi, Noriega, Sodom Hussein, the whole crowd. Those guys learned that “it wouldn’t be prudent” to mess with George and he kept them in line. Sometimes with his trusty Grumman TBF torpedo bomber in the Pacific Theatre, as Commander in Chief in Iraq and Panama, and other times through stern rhetoric that left no doubt as to swift retribution if needed.  8)
