Science fiction writer (and de facto Terminator creator) Harlan Ellison has died. He was 84. He wrote for such sci-fi juggernauts as Star Trek and Babylon 5. He wrote the famous "City on the Edge of Forever" episode of Star Trek (TOS). He was fired from Disney for joking about making a Disney porno, while imitating several beloved characters. He successfully sued James Cameron, claiming The Terminator ripped off two episodes he wrote of The Outer Limits, "Demon with a Glass Hand" and "Soldier." Speaking of Terminator, Harlan was not related to Terminator: Genysis producers Megan and David Ellison. That's just a cosmic coincidence.

Ellison edited the influential anthology Dangerous Visions in 1967, and over the course of his storied career had won multiple Nebula, Hugo, Edward, Writers Guild of America, and Edgar Allen Poe Awards — to name just some of his honors. His biography, A Lit Fuse: The Provocative Life of Harlan Ellison, an Exploration, was published last year.

RIP
