Legendary performer Della Reese, known for her role in Touched by an Angel, as well as 70's fare such as Chico and the Man, has passed away at the age of 86. :\'(

She also was a singer, having had a musical career in her early adult life; for example she scored a hit with "Don't You Know" in 1959. Then in the 1960s she released some additional albums.

She was a very spiritual person and an ordained minister.
I also remember her late afternoon talk show which ran in 1969 and 1970, which NOBODY remembers. She would come out and sing a song and then have guests. There was a regular feature called "Improvs" where everybody would sit on stools (sitting on stools was very big in 60s and 70s TV) and a topic would be given and everyone would improvise with it, to great comedic effect. This was years and years before "Whose Line Is It Anyway" and the like.

I didn't keep count, but this month the celebrities are dropping like flies so it seems.

I am fairly certain that nine seasons of "Touched" was sufficient (professional) atonement for "Harlem Nights"!
But what genre did her singing qualify as? Jazz? Gospel? Swing? R&B? Maybe it depended on the song, but I was never certain.
