The Tragically Hip singer Gord Downie passed away last night at the age of 53 surrounded by his children, friends, and his bandmates.

Yes. He was not just a singer/songwriter/musician but he was a humanitarian who was working with Canada's indigenous people on the Truth and Reconciliation Project put on by the Trudeau Liberals.
The Truth and Reconciliation Project opens up and tells the truth about things such as indigenous rights and the abuses that were suffered by the people at the hands of the residential schools as well there being an inquiry into the missing and murdered indigenous women and girls.

I know. When the Kingston Concert was happening I had this ugly premonition that this could be the last time we ever see Gord Downie. I didn't think that my premonition would come true. He knew that his time was coming. And he fought to the bitter end.

Yes. They had a whole catalog of songs from the 1980s up until last year. Gord's glioblastoma diagnosis was at the end of 2015 and he went through surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy to get well enough for their farewell tour last year. It was just 4 days ago that he died. People with Gord's type of brain tumor can live for up to 20 years. :) We were lucky to have him for the past year and a half.
The sad thing about this brain tumor is that it can't be cured but it can only be managed. :(
