Subject: Sculptor Donald Featherstone creator of the pink lawn flamingo dies aged 79

The trained sculptor who created the kitsch plastic lawn flamingos which have infested gardens in the U.S. since the Fifties has died.
The creatures sold millions and became iconic in the gay community thanks in part of films such as John Waters’ classic Pink Flamingos.
The garish pink creatures led to dozens of bars being called Pink Flamingo – and were popular in games such as The Sims.
Sculptor Donald Featherstone was 79.
Featherstone’s wife, Nancy, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that her husband died Monday at an elder care facility in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, after a long battle with Lewy body dementia.
