Subject: The 'Burbs Actor Rick Ducommun Dies At 62
Written By: Philip Eno on 06/19/15 at 9:29 am
Canadian actor and comedian Rick Ducommun, known for his role alongside Tom Hanks in 1989 film The 'Burbs, has died aged 62.
His brother, Peter Ducommun, said he died on 12 June at a Vancouver hospital after suffering from complications due to diabetes.
Ducommun played eccentric neighbour Art Weingartner to Hanks' character Ray Peterson in The 'Burbs, which became a cult classic.
However, the film was not a commercial success and Ducommun found himself continuing stand-up comedy with occasional film work.
He went on to feature in Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Bill Murray hit Groundhog Day, and Scary Movie.
"He was funny, talented and creative," said Peter Ducommun.
"I think what people admired most was his stand-up.
"He was a comedian's comedian. Anyone who had the opportunity to see him live, loved his material."
Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, his brother said Rick Ducommun spent the last few years in Vancouver and stepped away from showbusiness after having a family.
He is survived by four children, his ex-wife, brother and father.
