Subject: 'First celebrity chef' Marguerite Patten dies
Written By: Philip Eno on 06/10/15 at 9:37 am
Cookery writer and wartime broadcaster Marguerite Patten - widely considered to have been the first celebrity chef - has died aged 99.
Long before the UK was drooling over food from the likes of Jamie Oliver or Nigella Lawson, Mrs Patten (below left) fronted her first TV cookery show on the BBC in 1947, telling the country how to make the most of its rations during World War Two.
She wrote more than 170 books and achieved worldwide sales of more than 17 million copies.
Her family said she died on 4 June "from an illness stoically borne".

Sorry to hear that her life was cut short. She sounds like a pretty good cook!
