Subject: Chicago Mayor Jane Byrne Gone

Jane Byrne, the first (and so far only) woman to rise to the office of the honorable Mayor of Chicago, has passed away at the age of 81. :\'(

Jane rose to power after the prior Mayor fired her from her city job, so she decided to run against him in the next mayoral election. As she was running against the Chicago Machine, she was considered to have little chance in unseating Mayor Michael Bilandic.
But then a storm dropped 20 inches of snow on the town, and Bilandic's crew couldn't manage to plow the streets.
Jane won the election in the following month, in a landslide. ;D

I recall being fond of her in the early '80s, as I lived in Chicago. Sad to lose her :\'( :\'( :\'(
