Subject: Twister inventor Charles Foley died aged 82
Written By: Philip Eno on 07/16/13 at 3:18 am
Charles Foley, the inventor of Twister – a game where players become the game pieces – has died at the age of 82 (on July 1st 2013).
Affectionately known as Chuck to close friends, Mr Foley died at a care home in Minneapolis. His family have confirmed he had developed complications from Alzheimer’s Disease.
Sales soared when the world was first introduced to Twister on US television in 1966.
The popular party game was originally called Pretzel because of how players get tangled with one another. But after selling the idea to another entrepreneur, it was soon rebranded as Twister.
It faced some criticism, with some commentators labelling it ‘sex in a box’ due to the close body contact it requires. But Mr Foley said people were more interested in winning.
One of his nine children, Mark Foley, said: ‘He tried to think like young people thought.
‘He never wanted to grow up, and he always maintained his enthusiasm for seeing things through the eyes of a child.’
