Venezuelan president El Comandante, Hugo Chavez bit it today, after a long battle with cancer.

I just read an article that blames "Cuban medicine" but I think that is nonsense.

I am not surprised. A few days ago, I heard a rumor that he had been dead for four days.

I can't even bring myself to put a sad face on this post. Chavez was a brutal, godless, near-commie dictator who got just what he deserved. Now the only true Communist leaders on Earth are Raul Castro, Kim Jong-Un, Win Jiabao(China), Tru'o'ng Tan Sang(Vietnam), and Barack Obama. And one by one, each of them will be brought down by death or democracy, or both. My Congratulations to the decent people of Venezuela.

Chavez was a typical Latin American left leaning populist.  A bit sleazy, a bit uncouth, and a pain in the ass to the USA, but all in all, your typical caudillo.  Like Roosevelt said of the Nicaraguan one, "he's a son-of-a-bitch, but he;s OUR he's our son-of-a-bitch (only he wasn't)

Yup-it takes someone who many in the States do not like to help OUR low income people. Where are the U.S. oil companies? They are too greedy to help out those less fortunate.

Confused here.  I thought he had socialist leanings. Hasn't he been lauded by his people for keeping his promises to to help them? I did not think he was a dictator...what am I missing? Can you refer me to where you found these facts?

If it had to be one or the other, I'd rather live in a world with Chavez and without cancer than the other way around, but I'll settle for this one.

he's barely even a moderate Democrat, he's closer to what a Republican was about 20 years ago. His "socialist" healthcare package was originally written by right-wing think-tanks in the 90s (like the Heritage foundation). It's a huge give away to the medical insurance companies while solving very little.  Socialism? no.  Closer to Fascism which is more of a right-wing thing.
