Subject: Robert Ayres, Illustrator of Flaming 'Bonanza' Map, Passes at 98

Robert Ayres, the illustrator who drew that map of the Ponderosa that burns at the beginning of each episode, passed away on February 25th at the age of 98. Three days before his death he went out to view the original dsrawing at the Gene Autry museum.
Bonanza ran from 1959 through 1973 and they always opened with the burning map. I always wondered if he ever got tired having to draw that map again every week.
RIP Mr. Ayres, thanks for the memorable opening sequence. :)

Yes ... it was an memorable sequence. I always think of that whenever I hear the theme music.
