Whitney Houston, who reigned as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, has died. She was 48. Publicist Kristen Foster said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unclear.

Is Whitney Houston singing the blues these days? She might be, if reports from unnamed sources are any indication.

Houston, who re-signed with Arista Records — now a part of Sony Music Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) — for $100 million about ten years ago, has apparently spent all that money.

This news comes after a rough decade for the diva, who battled drug addiction and divorced former New Edition singer Bobby Brown in 2006. Rumors of Houston’s fiscal problems have been denied by her spokesperson.

Houston released her last album, I Look to You, in 2009, and is slated to star in Sparkle this summer, playing the mother of the title character in a film about a 60s girl group and their struggles with fame. Perhaps not surprisingly, this movie is being released by another arm of Sony, Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Whether or not Houston has gone broke, Sony still seems to believe in the actress/singer, though we will have to wait and see whether their faith is well-founded or not.

Paramedics were called to the Beverly Hilton today when Houston was found unresponsive in her hotel room ... sources tell TMZ.

We're told police arrived to the scene within minutes and fire was already there on another call. According to our sources, paramedics performed CPR but it did not work and she was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM.

Sadly, given how she's been a tabloid joke for the past 15+ years, that would not surprise me. It's even possible, whether or not she was off the drugs, that past use left her health irreversibly damaged.

What is truly tragic is she followed the exact same career path as Michael Jackson: Get a big break, start young, soar too high too fast, drop like a stone, and die before your time. How many before them, with and without actual talent, have gone the path of Icarus and left a world of shocked and greiving fans? Of course, we can't help but wonder where anything-but-darling husband Bobby Brown was at the time.

I was never a big fan of Whitney, but I did enjoy one of her songs on occasion(most notably "Saving All My Love" and "When You Believe"). RIP, Miss Houston. You will be missed.

Whitney Houston was to attend Clive Davis' party tonight

Whitney Houston was among the A-list performers planning to attend veteran music mogul Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party Saturday at the Beverly Hilton hotel, the see-and-be-seen event of the year.

Earlier this week, the 79-year-old Davis perused page after page of guest lists in a bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where he conducts business when he’s in the Los Angeles area. Among those Houston was expected to rub elbows with: Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett, Akon, Cee Lo Green, Miley Cyrus, Sean "Puffy" Combs, Jennifer Hudson, Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello and Diana Krall.

“It’s a great time where everybody can set down their swords, so to speak,” Davis said, seated on an overstuffed divan next to a coffee table cluttered with papers, CDs and videos. “I was grateful that, inviting them to my home, that they would feel comfortable and just keep coming back, and they've kept coming back every year to where it's expanded to be this incredible haven for musicians.”

Davis, whose track record in the music business stretches back half a century to when he was a lawyer at Columbia Records, was instrumental in bringing Houston into the public eye, along with such stars as Bruce Springsteen, Carlos Santana, Patti Smith, Barry Manilow, Alicia Keys and Sean Combs.

Davis has been involved in producing records for some “American Idol” winners and is working with the first-season winner of Simon Cowell's “X Factor” show, Melanie Amaro.

And I do not deny that it's possible, but if she took anything, it was probably as she was getting ready for the evening. She was in her hotel room at the Beverly, the night before the Grammys, and just a few floors above was the site of Clive Davis's pre-award-show party, to which she was invited. She spoke to both her mother and cousin(Dionne Warwick) just twenty minutes before, and then found unresponsive in the bathtub, leaving all of L.A. to wonder what happened.
Tragic as it is, talk about a Hollywood ending!

Back in 1991, when the US was preparing for Operation Desert Storm and thousands of our troops were being deployed to Saudi Arabia, Whitney Houston was chosen to sing the national anthem for Super Bowl XXV.

She absolutely f**cking CRUSHED it.

I'm shocked!

I like her even though I was never really into her music.

The biggest respect that people paid to her, throughout her career, is that every dramatic female singer since Whitney has modelled herself on Whitney. Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, if Whitney Houston hadn't done what she did, several years before these names even got started in the industry, these singers wouldn't be taking the paths they have.

A frightfully sad loss. :(

Dionne Warwick and Cissy Houston spoke with Whitney Houston by phone just before she died and say Whitney seemed fine ... TMZ has learned.

Whitney's mother, Cissy Houston, spoke with her daughter 25-30 minutes before she died and nothing seemed unusual ... sources tell TMZ. We're told they talked about attending the Clive Davis pre-Grammy party.

Dionne Warwick, Whitney's cousin, called as well ... several hours before Whitney died ... to make sure they were sitting at the same table at Clive's party. And again ... there were no signs of trouble.

I was shocked to learn about this. But then again, I was not surprised unfortunately. Whitney had lost her singing voice and still looked palid after supposedly kicking the drug habit. It's just another sad example of living fast, dying young and leaving a beautiful corpse. Let's pray that she is in a better place.

Bobby Brown is said to have been all broken up on stage at the concert he was giving.  I'd have gotten up on that stage and slapped the black off of him, one slap for every tear.

That and all of the drugs she was still doing.  If you saw any of her recent interviews etc it was clear that she had something going on while claiming to be "clean".  I've dealt with lots of addicts in my time and they always profess that they are "clean". 

I would not be surprised to see the cause of death determined to be an "accidental death from prescription drug overdose" like they did with Heath Ledger.

It's all very sad.  As I recall, she was a coke user from the days before she met Bobby Brown so we can't really blame him for getting her hooked.  Of course during the marriage he was probably a huge enabler and that probably guaranteed that recovery for her would be extremely unlikely.

I hope that her daughter has a good support system that will keep her away from the dopers that helped drive her mother to ruin.

No illegal drugs have been found in the hotel room where Whitney Houston died -- at least not yet -- but prescription drugs were present, and it's possible the singer drowned in the bathtub ... TMZ has learned.

Sources tell us ... when EMTs arrived Whitney's body was already removed from the bathtub so it will take an autopsy to determine if she OD'd, drowned or died from some other cause.

Informed sources tell us ... Beverly Hills cops -- who were still searching the room at the time this story was posted -- found various pill bottles. There was no evidence that Whitney was drinking alcohol in the room.

Whitney's body was just removed from the room on a gurney.  It will go to the morgue for an autopsy to determine cause of death.

(BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.) — More than two decades ago, Clive Davis introduced a young woman with a scintillating voice to the music industry at his annual pre-Grammy soiree: Whitney Houston.

On Saturday night, hours after Houston’s death at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Davis — Houston’s mentor, producer, champion and longtime friend — memorialized her at this year’s gala, held downstairs from the same hotel where she died and where her body was being examined by coroner’s officials.

It was a surreal scene: Elvis Costello took to the stage to perform as Los Angeles county coroner’s Capt. John Kades arrived at the hotel. Alicia Keys arrived earlier and embraced Davis as he prepared for the show under extreme duress.

With celebrities including Tony Bennett, Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson in attendance, a somber Davis, reading from a sheet of paper, said: “I am personally devastated by the loss of someone who has meant so much to me. She was full of life, looking forward for tonight. She loved music and she loved this night that celebrated music.” He added: “Whitney was a beautiful person and she had a talent beyond compare. She graced this stage … so many times. So simply put: Whitney would have wanted the music to go on.” He dedicated the evening to her and asked for a moment of silence as a photo of the 48-year-old, hands wide open, looking to the sky, appeared on the screen. Then, he said with excitement: “Now ladies and gentlemen, let the music begin.”

Tony Bennett, the evening’s first performer, recounted other recent big-name deaths in the music industry. “First it was Michael Jackson, then Amy Winehouse, now the magnificent Whitney Houston. Let’s legalize drugs, like Amsterdam, it’s a very sane city now.” He added that Houston was “the greatest singer I’ve ever heard in my life.”

The scene was somewhat surreal given Houston’s shocking death only earlier in the day. But Grammy president and CEO Neil Portnow, who called Houston a friend, said “canceling the party was never an option.” “A lot of us holding hands tonight, on each other’s shoulders … We’ll be celebrating,” he said. “The legacy she left will be here forever.” He announced that Jennifer Hudson would perform a tribute to Houston at Sunday’s Grammys.

Diddy gave his own memories of Houston, recalling her incredible smile and positive spirit. He said when he heard she died, “I was in a state of shock.”
“Whitney Houston, simply put, had the greatest voice of the world,” he told the crowd. “Hearing her sing was like listening to magic. … We lost an angel, and anytime we think of Whitney, we have to remember the positivity she gave us, when she performed, she performed 5,000 percent. She wasn’t a hater, she was a congratulator.”

Earlier in the evening, India.Arie said Houston “set the standard for what it is to be a great female artist.”

Producer Jimmy Jam said her death was a “bittersweet irony” given that Davis heralded Houston as a great talent to watch when he had her perform at his party in her youth. “The fact that it happened on this day, this event is where Clive Davis introduced Whitney to the world. We said hello to Whitney at the Clive Davis (gala), it may be appropriate we’re saying our first goodbyes to Whitney at a Clive Davis event.

“In a weird way it’s appropriate, the show must go on. I think Whitney would have wanted that to happen. … Tonight I think we begin to celebrate and remember.”

Keys was one of the last performers. She called the evening a “very special night” and, after singing a line from Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” noted how the late diva had inspired her. “You think about how this person touched you,” she said. “(Then) you form a friendship, a sisterhood, a bond. You see how incredible they really are. … She was a sister to me.”

Moments later, she launched into her hit “No One,” saying: “This one’s for her. Let’s sing her into heaven.”

Bobbi Kristina Brown, only child of the late singer Whitney Houston, has been rushed to an LA-area hospital, KCBS has confirmed.

Bobbi Kristina had been staying at the Beverly Hilton, the same hotel where her mother had registered to stay at for a pre-Grammy party Saturday night.

Houston was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon in her room on the fourth floor of the Beverly Hilton. She had been planning to attend a party that night at the Hilton.

"There were no obvious signs of any criminal intent," said Beverly Hills police Lt. Mark Rosen.

Whitney Houston May Have Drowned in Tub, Taken Xanax Before Death

Reports have begun to roll in about Whitney Houston's final hours and what may have caused her untimely death.

TMZ reports that Houston was found submerged in her bathtub at the Beverly Hilton hotel by her stylist, hairdresser and two bodyguards. Houston's entourage became worried about the singer because she had been in the bathroom for over an hour, and it was time to prepare for the Clive Davis pre-Grammy party, where she had planned to perform.

The hairdresser went in to check on Houston, and found the singer in the tub with her face under water and her legs up, looking as though she slid down the back of the tub. Bodyguards attempted CPR on Houston, who remained unresponsive. Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter, and the singer was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM.



TMZ also reports that the singer had a prescription for the drug Xananx, which she took to calm her nerves before big performances, like the pre-Grammy party she was scheduled to perform at Saturday evening, though sources close to Houston say she did not mention taking the drug on Saturday. Various prescription medication bottles are reported to have been found in her room when paramedics arrived.



An unnamed law enforcement official told RadarOnline.com that the singer had a "plethora of sedatives including Lorazepam, Valium, Xanax, and a sleeping medication" in her hotel room.



The prescription drugs were taken into custody by the Beverly Hills Police Department. An autopsy is expected to take place either Sunday or Monday.

Yep.  It really saddens me that people are so willing to enable the ones they "love".  I know a few people that supposedly love one of my close family members.  Yeah, they love that family member so much that they enable all their bad habits.  Ugh.  And then they have the nerve to think it is funny.

I remember watching the bobby/whitney series and there was one ep where whitney was pissed because B.C. was so fat.... it pissed me off... because a) the kid was chubby but not fat....and b) really not just was she humiliating her child publicly in the store, she was doing it in front of the cameras so the whole damn world could see it.... it's the one time I respected Bobby because he actually stood up for his daughter and also took the time to check on how she was feeling.

Yep.  Anybody who would prescribe all those drugs to a known addict is pretty much a malpracticing quack.  But she was a star so she was surrounded by fame junkies who would do anything she asked.

And you are right, it was Whitney who did herself in.  But expect those who surrounded her (and probably enabled her) to try and deny the obvious by saying that the death was an "accident" or simply "drowning"  or "she was clean, she died from a heart condition" like people tried to whitewash Heath Ledger's death.

If toxicology tests show that drugs were at the center of this, then her memory and her legacy would be better served if people did not try to whitewash it.

That and all of the drugs she was still doing.  If you saw any of her recent interviews etc it was clear that she had something going on while claiming to be "clean".  I've dealt with lots of addicts in my time and they always profess that they are "clean". 

I would not be surprised to see the cause of death determined to be an "accidental death from prescription drug overdose" like they did with Heath Ledger.

It's all very sad.  As I recall, she was a coke user from the days before she met Bobby Brown so we can't really blame him for getting her hooked.  Of course during the marriage he was probably a huge enabler and that probably guaranteed that recovery for her would be extremely unlikely.

I hope that her daughter has a good support system that will keep her away from the dopers that helped drive her mother to ruin.

No illegal drugs have been found in the hotel room where Whitney Houston died -- at least not yet -- but prescription drugs were present, and it's possible the singer drowned in the bathtub ... TMZ has learned.

Sources tell us ... when EMTs arrived Whitney's body was already removed from the bathtub so it will take an autopsy to determine if she OD'd, drowned or died from some other cause.

Informed sources tell us ... Beverly Hills cops -- who were still searching the room at the time this story was posted -- found various pill bottles. There was no evidence that Whitney was drinking alcohol in the room.

Whitney's body was just removed from the room on a gurney.  It will go to the morgue for an autopsy to determine cause of death.

With all due respect to Cissy, Dionne and ppl close to Whitney the only opinion tgat matters is Bobbi Kris' if she wants her father there then he should be there if she, knowing how the family feels, doesn't want him because of the antimosity then he should stay away.

I will say this- I alluded to it before. Bobby brown has made a lot of bad choices in his life. I firmly believe Whitney used before meeting bobby but I think his influence and enabling worsened it.
Having said that I walked from that horrible reality show knowing one thing- he is a man who loves his kids and seemed to try to do right by them more often than not.

TMZ has learned ... Whitney had been very spiritual in her final days ... quoting the bible, singing hymns and engaging in intense conversations about Jesus Christ and the afterlife with her close friends and family members.

We're told .... on Friday , one day after she performed, "Yes Jesus Loves Me" at Tru nightclub in Hollywood, Whitney told one of her friends, "I'm gonna go see Jesus ... I want to see Jesus."

The next morning, hours before her death, Whitney was discussing a bible passage involving John the Baptist and Jesus ... when Houston flashed a big smile and remarked, "You know, he's so cool ... I really want to see that Jesus."

Another source tells us ... Whitney had been telling friends she "felt like her time was coming" ... and wanted to make sure she spent her time praising her lord and savior whenever she could.

Unfortunately, Whitney's premonition came true.

With all due respect to Cissy, Dionne and ppl close to Whitney the only opinion tgat matters is Bobbi Kris' if she wants her father there then he should be there if she, knowing how the family feels, doesn't want him because of the antimosity then he should stay away.

I will say this- I alluded to it before. Bobby brown has made a lot of bad choices in his life. I firmly believe Whitney used before meeting bobby but I think his influence and enabling worsened it.
Having said that I walked from that horrible reality show knowing one thing- he is a man who loves his kids and seemed to try to do right by them more often than not.


I think if Whitney married someone else maybe her life could've been drug-free.

(CNN) -- Pop superstar Whitney Houston was seen ordering and consuming considerable quantities of alcohol at The Beverly Hilton two mornings last week, said a source briefed on her behavior and activity in the days before her death Saturday.

The source told CNN's Don Lemon that Houston ordered the drinks before 10 a.m. last Wednesday and Thursday from the bars in the lobby and pool area.

Guests both days overheard Houston loudly complaining about her drinks, accusing bartenders of "watering down" or "putting too much ice" in them, the source said Wednesday.

Houston's funeral will be broadcast Saturday

The source said other guests expressed concern about Houston's erratic behavior. Her disheveled appearance, including mismatched clothing, suggested to them that she was intoxicated, the source said. The source said Houston was seen jumping in and out of the pool and doing somersaults in the pool area.

The source added that Houston was alone for some of the time, but was also seen at the pool drinking with her entourage and a male companion on both days.

Saturday, the day she died, Houston was seen drinking at the pool in the morning, although the source noted witnesses said her behavior did not appear erratic.

A singer who participated in an impromptu duet with Houston at a party Thursday night said Houston was not behaving erratically, but did have champagne.

"I didn't see someone who was high," Kelly Price told CNN's "Starting Point" on Monday. During the party, Houston took the stage unexpectedly and sang a hoarse rendition of "Jesus Loves Me" with Price.

Authorities are trying to determine the source of Houston's prescription medication found in the hotel room where she died, officials said Wednesday.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's office has issued subpoenas seeking Houston's medical records and her prescriptions, Ed Winter, assistant chief coroner, said Wednesday. Investigators are also contacting pharmacies where the prescriptions were filled, he said.

Houston, 48, was found dead in the bathtub of her suite at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday, hours before she was to attend a pre-Grammys bash at the Beverly Hills, California, hotel.

Houston's death certificate, filed Wednesday, listed her cause of death as "deferred," meaning it was delayed pending more information. Speculation has grown while authorities await the outcome of toxicology tests that could take weeks.

Winter has said that while medication was found in the room, the amount was less than that usually present in overdose deaths.

"I know there are reports that she maybe was drowned or did she overdose, but we won't make a final determination until all the tests are in," Winter said earlier. He ruled out foul play and said there were no injuries to Houston's body.

The prescriptions found in the room were in Houston's name, Winter told Lemon. By contacting the doctors, investigators are attempting to verify the prescriptions and find out if there were any more.

Several doctors have been contacted in California and other states, along with pharmacies, he said. All were cooperating.

"The doctors I've contacted so far have been helpful," he said, and nothing out of the ordinary was found as long as Houston was taking the medication as prescribed. Some additional information has been gained, he said, and investigators are waiting to see Houston's medical records.

It does not appear that she was "doctor shopping," he said, but officials are attempting to contact as many doctors as possible to rule that out, along with determining whether Houston was filling multiple prescriptions.

"Everything is above board," Winter said. "So far, nothing looks criminal."

But it was too soon to say whether Houston had any prescriptions she should not have or used an alias, he said.

Although subpoenas have been issued -- a fairly unusual step in a death investigation -- Winter said the federal Drug Enforcement Administration has not been asked to assist.

As part of the investigation following the death of singer Michael Jackson in 2009, bags and bottles of prescription drugs were found at Jackson's home. Local and state authorities spent months tracking the pharmacies that filled the prescriptions. One of those pharmacies was the Mickey Fine Pharmacy and Grill in Beverly Hills.

One of the prescriptions found in Houston's suite was also from the Mickey Fine pharmacy, Winter said, but "the prescription that came from Mickey Fine is not something that would kill her."

Investigators want a history of all prescriptions Houston may have filled there and at other pharmacies, and wants to make sure all of the pharmacies that filled Houston's prescriptions are accounted for. Generally, "you go to a doctor and get a prescription, then you go to the dentist and get another prescription," he said.

Houston visited a Beverly Hills ear, nose and throat specialist four days before she died, a source familiar with her visit said Wednesday.

Dr. Shawn Nasseri has treated Houston for throat and vocal problems for several years, said the source, who asked not to be identified because they are not authorized to speak publicly about it.

Nasseri treats many well-known singers who have vocal problems, and has served as the doctor for "American Idol" contestants for several years.

Houston's battles with drug addiction had cast a shadow in recent years over her impressive singing voice and her talent.

However, a close family friend told CNN on Tuesday that Houston had not used "hard drugs" for several years, although she was taking medication for a throat infection and Xanax or a similar drug for anxiety and to help her sleep. The friend said Houston was also known to have a drink if she went out.

The coroner's office said toxicology tests could take six to eight weeks, though Beverly Hills police Lt. Mark Rosen said that the coroner's report is expected to be finished sooner -- in two to three weeks.

Winter said Wednesday his office has asked that Houston's toxicology results be expedited, saying he's hoping for a tournaround of four to six weeks, possibly sooner.

"With respect to Ms. Houston, we have an average of 50 cases a day," he said. "We've got 49 other cases and families looking for results too."

A private, invitation-only funeral is planned for Houston on Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, where she honed her vocal skills as a child.

The services are expected to be made available for television and web streaming, Houston's publicist said.

Singer Aretha Franklin, Houston's godmother who is known as the "Queen of Soul," has been asked to perform at the funeral service, Franklin's spokeswoman said.

And Houston's cousin, singer Dionne Warwick, was in New Jersey helping the family with funeral arrangements, Warwick's publicist said.

Gospel singer and pastor Marvin L. Winans will give the eulogy at the funeral at the request of Houston's mother, said New Hope Pastor Joe Carter.

Winans officiated Houston's 1992 marriage to R&B singer Bobby Brown, said Carter. The two divorced in 2007.

Asked why no public memorial service was planned, Winans told CNN's Anderson Cooper on Wednesday night the family didn't "want to have a parade."

"I don't think, knowing Cissy (Houston's mother) and the Houston family ... it was a matter of public or private as it was this is my daughter, this is my sister, this is my mother, this is my friend and we want to do this with dignity."

Although the family is not commenting on Houston's burial location, her death certificate filed Wednesday in Los Angeles lists it as Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey. A message left by CNN with the cemetery office was not immediately returned.

Meanwhile, Bobby Brown said in a statement Wednesday his 18-year-old daughter with Houston, Bobbi Kristina, is "doing much better." The teenager was twice taken to Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to be treated for stress and anxiety in the day following her mother's death.

A close family friend said Tuesday that Bobbi Kristina was in the care of her grandmother, Cissy Houston, and her father.

"We continue to provide love and support to Bobbi Kristina," Bobby Brown's statement said Wednesday. "She is dealing with the tragedy of her mother's death and would prefer to do it outside of the public eye. I ask again that our privacy be respected."

Distraught After Hearing He's Unwanted at Funeral

Bobby Brown is "extremely disappointed" after hearing that several members of Whitney Houston's family do not want him to attend the singer's funeral ... sources tell TMZ.

Sources close to Bobby tell us ... people connected to the Houston family have reached out to Bobby to warn him that he shouldn't attempt to attend the funeral because the family isn't fond of him.

However ... we're told Bobby has not received any OFFICIAL word from the family about his invite status.

Sources tell us ... Bobby WANTS to attend the funeral so he can support his daughter Bobbi Kristina, but he hasn't decided on a plan of action yet.

Relax, FB. That wasn't a Whitney Houston joke, given the song title, the butt of it was clearly Bobby Brown. And he's been fair game ever since he first laid a hand(or fist!) on Whitney.
I found it kind of ironic that just last week on Jeopardy!, before her death, three categories came up in a round as WHITNEY... HOUSTON... WE HAVE A PROBLEM! :D

When my best friend died I went to a celebration of a her life not a mourning of her death.  It was a nice service. I was sad to have lost someone I loved so much but I laughed and smiled because all we did was talk about fun memories. They played it recording someone made of a story she told.  It was basically the last conversation I had with her. It was about how she was so happy she got to use a toilet that day. She was a great story teller and it was a hilarious moment but she was sooo proud having been on a colostomy bag and catheter for a year I still smile when I think of that phone call.

Well one can't blame the people who loved Whitney Houston for paying their respects and giving her a proper sendoff.  She meant alot to many people.

But I guess where I draw the line is that many people want to whitewash her drug use, or say that it was just one small aspect to her life.  Or even now take great offense at the suggestion that her death was related to drugs, which undoubtedly will be found to be the case.  Here's the truth:  Whitney ruined her life and wasted her talents due to the drugs and the booze, and certainly did her child no favors in the process.  It should not be whitewashed or hidden (although it does not need to be brought up in a denigrating manner either).  It needs to be properly brought into the light so that others may learn from it.  So that other celebrities may somehow find a way to avoid it before they go down her path.

This is what amazes me.  The same people that trash Whitney after her death are the same ones that were mourning when Michael Jackson died.  They both died off perscription drugs.  It seems like Michael Jackson has more respect after he died than when Whitney died.  I am so SICK and TIRED of people trashing Whitney after her death.  And for someone who called Whitney Houston trash, that is VERY disrespectful of you for saying that.  Whitney Houston should get the SAME respect as Michael Jackson.  How dare you trash that woman like that.  Yes she did drugs, but so did Elvis Presley, Amy Winehouse, Marilyn Monroe, River Phoenix.  They ALL died of an overdose.  But you decided to trash Whitney after she died? And for saying all of that, I do agree that she made bad choices when it comes to men.  No one force her to marry Bobby Brown. She knew what kind of man Bobby what, but she was like her krytonite.  She was hooked on him like white on rice.  Her family warned her not to marry that man.  A lot of men in Hollywood want to be with Whitney in the 80s and early 90s.  She dated Randall Cunningham and Eddie Murphy.  She should've married either of them.  Out of all the men that she chose, she chose Bobby Brown????? To me all drug addicts are responsible for what happens to them. They make the decisions and continue to use. The drs are culpable for providing the drugs but let's be real they'd get the drugs whether a dr prescribed them or not, the family's enable the abuse but really the addict ultimately kills themself.

You can disagree all you want, but it's the truth. Thanks Tam.  I haven't really been following the funeral. I only knew it was being broadcast because I heard it mentioned on the radio on my way to work on Frid. I was sort of over the whole Whitney's dead after reading the hundredth grieving post on Twitter....... professional hazard I guess... I really can separate myself from anything that doesn't personally affect me....hell I was more affected by the passing of Aaliyah and Left Eye than I ever was about Whitney and MJ. 

Neither Bobby or the family are really making it easy on each other. I get why the fam is mad and I get why Bobby is upset...they are all wrong. sometimes you have to be bigger than whatever it is that pisses you off about the person (I should take my own advice) Obviously it's easier said than done.

Thanks Tam.  I haven't really been following the funeral. I only knew it was being broadcast because I heard it mentioned on the radio on my way to work on Frid. I was sort of over the whole Whitney's dead after reading the hundredth grieving post on Twitter....... professional hazard I guess... I really can separate myself from anything that doesn't personally affect me....hell I was more affected by the passing of Aaliyah and Left Eye than I ever was about Whitney and MJ. 

Neither Bobby or the family are really making it easy on each other. I get why the fam is mad and I get why Bobby is upset...they are all wrong. sometimes you have to be bigger than whatever it is that pisses you off about the person (I should take my own advice) Obviously it's easier said than done.

I'm never inclined to believe what a family member has to say when it's being said to "clear up" a person's good name.

I also look at this video from 83 on Merv and I think....hmmm her eyes look a little glassy this was 6 yrs before they met....  and lets be real.... drug use was rampant in the music, movie and television industry particularly in the 80s so if it wasn't already happening it was bound to happen with or without Bobby's influence....

I keep wanting to ignore the subsequent posts but then I have this need to reply.

There are some MJ fans here who think he moonwalked on water or whatever, i think you will find I am most certainly not one of them..... I care about as much about MJ's passing as I do whitney's loss of a life early is sad but since I don't know them personally and haven't given thought to either of them in decades  I truly no longer care if they are dead or alive. I was shocked when I heard MJ passed and I was shocked when I saw the reports of Whitney's passing. I was sad for about 15 minutes about MJ but realized he was lost to me in 1988... and I was sad about whitney for like 22 minutes but realized I was done with her circa 1997..... around the time that horrible Cinderella movie aired on Disney.  I watched Being Bobby Brown because it was like watching a side show at a circus....ya kinda don't wanna go see the bearded the lady or the goat boy but you can't not look...

I was just thinking, a lot of people talked trash about Brittany Murphy and Corey Haim....both used drugs yet based on the medical exam both had pneumonia.  Haim's autopsy lists respiratory distress, pneumonia and coronary disease as causes of death....no doubt the coronary disease was exacerbated by years of drug abuse.  Brittany Murphy's autopsy report read  "Multiple medications were present in the blood........the pattern of use of these medications suggest treatment of symptoms of a cold or other respiratory infection"      People initally had a field day rehashing their drug habits....particularly Haim's and he's a white male.  Brittany was a white female.

WTF?  Anna Nicole Smith took a pretty bug drubbing for her nonstop drug use and her ultimate death due to it, far more that Whitney has so far.  I will agree that IN GENERAL, society tends to whitewash the drug usage self-destruction of many celebrities but I do not see much of a racist pattern there.  Billie Holiday, Dorothy Dandridge both died due to their drug/alcohol habits (Dandridge due to a direct overdose, Holiday due to cirrhosis of the liver) and they are looked upon as romantic figures.  Ditto for Jimi Hendrix, Heath Ledger, and dozens of other celebrities who destroyed themselves via drink or drugs.  Poeple even try to claim that the drug deaths in the cases of some were "accidental overdoses" as if this somehow means the deceased were somehow not engaging in self destructive behavior.

Mike Starr and Tim Conaway, both white drug addicts, were generally derided as self-destructive addicts and they were white men. For whatever reason, white male addicts like Ledger, Belushi, and Chris Farley are looked upon more favorably.  I don't know why... they all pretty much wasted their talents and their lives due to drugs, and in some of these cases left young children without a parent.

ONE thing is for sure.  DRUGS to not discriminate... Get hooked on them and there is a good chance you'll die.  :-\\

I understand what the bible says, I also try to live by the bible.  I also understand that now matter what you think, God will only hold Whitney accountable for her actions, not Bobby.  Bobby is accountable for his actions.  And, if a person does something illegal or harmful just because they love someone so much they would do anything for them, then they are the ones to blame, not the loved one.  Face it, Whitney is the one who put the drugs in her body...she is the the one who has to take the lion share of the blame for what it did to her body.  And if it was her love for Bobby, what is your reasoning for after their divorce?  How can you blame him when he wasn't the one there.

As for her acting with class in the 80's?  Lots of entertainers were deep into drugs but were still able to act with class to the public.  That was before things like phones with cameras and the internet.  More bad behavior gets caught now because of the ability to share pictures and videos almost instantly.  I think that if we had the technology then, we would have seen more of the entertainers being who they really were, not just a public persona.

That's exactly it. Paparazzi wasn't as crazy then as it was now. There wasn't this need for 24/7 access and gossip rags trying to bring down every celeb they can throw a rock at....    and, every person on the street wasn't a mini-paparazzi carrying their own personal cameras (cell phones) with them everywhere they go capable of capturing every non-flattering thing they see... and there weren't reality TV shows exposing the celebs to the world -scripted or not, edited to present a certain image or not....you just didn't get all the microcozim of moments to hyper analyze every move the celebs made.

Exactly.  She CHOSE to marry him, which I blame her for that.  She should've listen to her mother when she told her not to marry Bobby Brown.  Her life was doomed the moment she married him in 1992.  She was so addictive to Bobby Brown that it's not funny.  If she wouldn't marry him, she will still be here and she will be drug free.  Bobby is the devil.

How about Judy Garland? She was a barbiturate freak! Didn't hear much about that either huh?

There is none because the media reported the good rather than the bad at that time. But you can't tell me that people weren't sitting around and talking crap about them anyway. Maybe you need to read it, too.  Yes it says the man is the spiritual head of the household, but it also says you are responsible for your own actions.  You are saying it is Bobby's fault like he forces Whitney to do drugs.  No, she made the choice.  After the divorce, she still made the choice.  And, I am with Q, she probably dabbled before the marriage.  She was not perfect, nor did she deserve to be on a pedestal.  You can not blame Bobby for everything.  Maybe he introduced her to the hard stuff, maybe he didn't.  Either way she made the conscious choice to do them.  End of story.

WTF?  Anna Nicole Smith took a pretty bug drubbing for her nonstop drug use and her ultimate death due to it, far more that Whitney has so far.  I will agree that IN GENERAL, society tends to whitewash the drug usage self-destruction of many celebrities but I do not see much of a racist pattern there.  Billie Holiday, Dorothy Dandridge both died due to their drug/alcohol habits (Dandridge due to a direct overdose, Holiday due to cirrhosis of the liver) and they are looked upon as romantic figures.  Ditto for Jimi Hendrix, Heath Ledger, and dozens of other celebrities who destroyed themselves via drink or drugs.  Poeple even try to claim that the drug deaths in the cases of some were "accidental overdoses" as if this somehow means the deceased were somehow not engaging in self destructive behavior.

Mike Starr and Tim Conaway, both white drug addicts, were generally derided as self-destructive addicts and they were white men. For whatever reason, white male addicts like Ledger, Belushi, and Chris Farley are looked upon more favorably.  I don't know why... they all pretty much wasted their talents and their lives due to drugs, and in some of these cases left young children without a parent.

ONE thing is for sure.  DRUGS to not discriminate... Get hooked on them and there is a good chance you'll die.  :-\\

On the Michael Jackson Memorial thread, it took 12.6 days to get to 363 posts.  Here on the Whitney Houston thread, we are at 363 posts in 9.9 days.
