Jani may best be remembered for his classic anthem, "Cherry Pie", made ever more memorable due to its interesting video that received endless airplay.
RIP Jani... :\'( I'll go have a pice of cherry pie in your honor today. :)

Report: Vodka, medicine found near Jani Lane

Warrant singer's death being investigated as possible overdose
A half-empty bottle of vodka and prescription medication were found in the California Comfort Inn hotel room where former Warrant rocker Jani Lane, 47, was found dead, TMZ.com is reporting.
His death is being investigated as a possible accidental overdose but may also have been from natural causes, the site reported.
The singer had a history of alcohol-related arrests, including one for crashing into a parked car in 2009.
The band released a statement on its website, warrantrocks.com, saying "We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Jani's passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Jani was a very important part of our lives for a long time. We will always be incredibly proud of the music we created together. He was a true talent and will be missed by all of us."

The band also posted a five-minute video on You Tube highlighting Lane.
Warrant is perhaps best-known for the 1990 hit "Cherry Pie," written by Lane, reportedly in just 15 minutes. The song brought such fame to the band and so overshadowed their other music that Lane once told VH1 he was sorry he'd written it.

He later retracted those comments, saying "I'm happy as a clam to have written a song that is still being played and still dug by so many people."
Lane married model Bobbie Brown, who starred in the "Cherry Pie" video, in 1991 and they had a daughter. The couple divorced in 1993.
He left Warrant three times after joining it in 1986, finally leaving for good in 2008. The band released a new album, "Rockaholic," in May.

How sad. I'd heard about this on the TV news this morning. :\'(
The song I know best from them (and enjoy) is "Heaven", from 1989.

Jani died one night
He died in his bed
Bottle of whiskey
Sleeping tablets by his head
Jani's life passed him by like a warm summer day
If you listen to the wind
You can still hear him play...
Don't you know that you are a shooting star
And all the world will love you just as long... as long as you are
A shooting star

This one almost made me cry. I had so hoped he could overcome the drugs and alcohol.
Today the music world lost another talented musician.
Rest in peace, Jani. You will be missed. :(

By all accounts from people who've met him, he was a good guy, modest, down-to-earth, but still able to rock.
RIP, dude who sang "DRFSR."

Saw him on a solo tour in a tiny bar in a small city in West Virginia in 1998-ish? He put on a good show. Had a good sense of humor.

Only Howard can turn a memorial thread into a sex discussion :(
Jani Lane was a great rocker. He was able to make metal music, that even someone who hates heavy metal can say they enjoyed. Who didn't enjoy "Heaven" oir "Cherry Pie". Every Metal fan must own the "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich" album.

Was never big on Warrant (except the song "Heaven"), but still sad to see another 80s hair icon pass away. I remember watching them open for Motley Crue's Dr. Feelgood tour in 1989. It was kinda funny because there was a brief power outage right in the middle of their set. They kept on going through the motions until the power was restored, and never missed a beat...
RIP Jani. I'll drink a cold one to that memory...

Hard to tell. She and Jani divorced in 1993 and far as I can tell, she has not remarried. :-\\

Well, the deceased is famous, after all, for this quite memorable chant:
Swingin' in the kitchen.
Most folks don't cause,
They're too busy bitchin'.
Swingin' in there cause,
She wanted me to feed her
I mixed up the batter
And she licked the beater

I concur. It's like discussing Julia Child without mentioning cooking!

I was sorry to see this too, "Cherry Pie" is one of my favorite songs to play on Guitar Hero.
I was going down the highway somewhere down south when I heard the announcement on 80's Satellite Radio, not sure how many times they played "Heaven" that day. Just hearing it ticked me off because I thought not another one gone! and far too soon! In the 90's it seemed losing Michael Hutchence(INXS) was bad enough, but in the last 10 years we've lost Ben Orr(The Cars), at least two Ramones, Joe Strummer(The Clash), Robert Palmer, Laura Branigan, Rick James, The Gloved One, Kevin Dubrow(Quiet Riot), Doug Fieger(The Knack), Clarence Clemons, Nick Ashford over the weekend, and there are probably more I can't remember. So hearing about Jani Lane, as he once sang, I Saw Red. Perhaps in writing this, he foresaw the breakup of his own marriage? We may never know. RIP Jani, we'll miss you, and as long as we can hear you singing, we will know, Heaven isn't too far away.
Your Pal,
Doc
