Singer-songwriter Eugene McDaniels, who wrote the classic R&B single “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” died July 29 at his home in Kittery Point, Maine after a brief illness at 76, the New York Times reports.
McDaniels’ first hit record came in 1961 with “A Hundred Pounds of Clay” and “Tower of Strength.”
He wrote a several cuts inspired by societal issues, like “Compared to What.” Still, his most transcendent hit is “Love,” which Roberta Flack took to No. 1 in 1974.
In addition to Flack’s version, it’s been covered artists ranging from D’Angelo to George Benson.
