Subject: Longtime Actor James Whitmore Passes On...
Written By: LyricBoy on 02/06/09 at 7:33 pm
Veteran stage and screen actor James Whitmore bit it today. He was 87 years old, cause of death was lung cancer. :\'(
Whitmore's roles were legendary, from his portrayal of President Truman to his pivotal role as an aging prisoner in The Shawshank Redemption. He was also known to several generations as the guy who hawked Miracle-Gro fertilizer on TV.
RIP James... you were a classy act. :)

Another veteran actor has gone to the Big Stage in the sky. I'll never forget his comedy series "Temperatures Rising" or his Ocsar nomination for "Give 'Em Hell Harry" So long, Ol' Timer". :\'(

I met him-and saw him on stage doing "Will Rogers' U.S.A." Unfortunately, I was really too young to appreciate it-both Will Rogers & James Whitmore's performance. I did get his autograph (but lost it :-[ ).
