Without even realizing it, Bettie made smut not just fun, but respectable. 

I hope she found what she was looking for when she dropped out of the business in the 50s.  Given the lengths to which she went to stay out of the spotlight (as recently as the 80s, she was unaware that she'd developed a cult following in pop culture), it looks like she probably found what she was looking for, and more power to her.

RIP, Bettie.

She may have been a pin-up but she had quite a lot of ups and downs.  She was diagnosed with schizophrenia and had been abused.  People who met her say she was a charming woman.  RIP Miss Betty. :\'(

Yeah! And Bettie Page is the reason to this day I'm enamored with Brunettes. You can be as prudish as you like but the reality is that Bettie Page was classy all the way. There is NO man on this planet that hasn't had his crane raised by this queen of risque entertainment.

Yes she was naughty, but always in a "cool" sexy way, you could be embarrassed to be looking at a "naughty" mag, but not a Bettie Page pic or pictorial.
You just knew you were dealing with class and quality. Despite her connotation with the public (at least in the 50's-60's) she has a wholesome image (well at least compared to todays smut) and stand-up presence about her.

She was old school, when that actually meant something...

Back in the day, her pinups were known as porn.  And to this day she is seen as one of the earliest players in the porn biz, albeit still photos.

Of course what was known as porn way-back-when you can see on the Disney Channel today.
