Subject: Writer Arthur C Clarke dies at 90
Written By: Philip Eno on 03/18/08 at 6:17 pm
From BBC News Online
British science fiction writer Sir Arthur C Clarke has died in Sri Lanka at the age of 90.
Born in Somerset, he came to fame in 1968 when a short story The Sentinel was made into the film 2001: A Space Odyssey by director Stanley Kubrick.
Once called "the first dweller in the electronic cottage", his vision of future space travel and computing captured the popular imagination.
A close aide said he died after a cardio-respiratory attack.

That's very sad.
He was one of the inspirations to my husband (who hopes to write science fiction someday).
He had a long life though.

What impressed me most about Clarke was his uncanny ability to blend hard SF with something as universally and irrationally human as faith, and yet to do so in a way that leaves theist, atheist, and agnostic alike feeling satisifed.
Here are two of his short stories to illustrate the point:
Arthur C. Clarke, The Star
Arthur C. Clarke, The Nine Billion Names of God

I liked The Sentinel. Also the TV series he did in the 80s Arthur C Clarkes Mysterious World (or something like that)
