this is my thought for the day!
nowadays if he was doing what he did in vietnam he'd be called a traitor. >:( although i think folks like sy hersh are carrying on the tradition nicely.

I enjoyed his sports writings, admittedly I'm fairly ignorant of some of his more political writings, but still, all of those involved in the world of sports journalism are familiar with him and respect him.

That's very true. He was great at war and sports, a lot of people who read his sports didn't know about the war/politics side and vice versa. If you enjoyed one genre it is worth you while to try the other. He was brilliant in both.
