Subject: RIP Dave Allen
Written By: philbo on 03/11/05 at 6:27 pm
One of my all-time favourite comedians, Dave Allen has died today, age 68. :)
Why the smiley? 'cause this means we get to see the repeats...
But seriously, anyone who's had a look at some of my more (sac)religious parodies, will see where one of my early influences lies - I used to sneak downstairs to watch him (it was always on very late) when I was in my early teens (and even younger), and had to laugh into a pillow so I didn't disturb my parents...

I have been sadden by this news today, for I was brought up on Dave Allen, being allowed to stay up late by my parents to watch his TV show.
He will be greatly missed.

A true original who was innovative for his time - even in the so-called liberated 70s, hearing monologues about religion and sex was rare...
And the superb way in which Dave would tell them was even rarer...
A very sad loss...

I didn't see Dave Allen much (I don't know whether I missed it or it just simply wasn't on much growing up). I saw a sketch today of him being a train driver and got upset because it stopped suddenly. He reached around and picked up a massive handle to wind the train up, lol. If that is the type of humour I have missed, I have missed a lot.

I don't suppose that we have heard of him stateside. But nevertheless, like nally, I am always sad to hear of someone's death. RIP.
