Subject: Multiple Youtube links

Written By: MaxwellSmart on 07/30/10 at 9:23 pm

Okie-Dokie.  Now that we have a Youtube link button, I would like to make a suggestion.  I notice some people like to post multiple Youtube links in a single post.  This practice takes up a lot of space.  The Youtube windows make scrolling down the thread awkward.  I suggest folks choose no more than three Youtube links for a single post.  If you post eight or ten at once, chances are nobody is going to watch all of them anyway.  If you must post a dozen links for whatever reason, perhaps you could post just the hyperlink without embedding the Youtube window.

For instance, suppose you started a thread about Rick Springfield.  Rather than embed ALL his videos, just embed "Jesse's Girl" or "Affair of the Heart."  A Rick Springfield fan can find the rest of Rick's videos on Youtube itself.  Somebody who hates Rick won't bother clicking on the embedded videos in the first place.

Anyone else have an opinion on this matter?
???

I had a problem with that on one of the threads before, so I stopped posting in it.

I've also started having slowdown on my own threads from posting one embedded vid at a time, so I've decided not to do so much.

I just posted 3 vids in my Justin Bieber VS Freedom Call thread (check it out in PPP, SUPPORT FREEDOM CALL!), and it was pretty tedious.

I hardly ever embed because it does take up space and it does slow things down.

I agree, and I've always tried to limit myself to three or four videos in a single post.

I could complain about it more, but then they'd start doing it just to bug me!

Is that Dutch or Finnish?
:D

I agree.

And I'm not so sure we need them in the "What song are you listening to" thread..  I know I've been guilty of it myself a couple times, but sometimes I get a whole page of them and just end up going somewhere else.

A good idea would be to make it so videos do not appear in quotes.  If the video is already there, you don't need to post it again.

My PC broke, so I can for now only get here through PS3, and some threads have so many embed videos (mostly via quotes) that it crashes my console.

It's OK to post the odd video, but when you put like more than 3 in one post (which I have been guilty of), it can slow down page loading times.

I think that's a good limit.

Lately a lurker who calls himself "Mr Bump" (and posts as a guest) seems to be flooding a particular thread in More Than A Decade with several clips in each reply. Personally I think that's a bit excessive. My browser has not crashed yet from this, but if it starts taking a while to load, then maybe there should be limitations on the matter. (Of course, the mods can't PM Mr Bump and ask him to tone it down, since he's not a member, just a guest.)

I sometimes post an embedded clip if it's one that I like, and want to share it openly with the group, but I don't go putting several of them in one page, let alone one post. Links (such as URL listings), rather than multiple embeds, are better.

I agree with this sentiment too.

Yes, because more memory is involved. But "Mr. Bump" probably doesn't seem to care.

I usually cut and paste the links to the songs so that way it doesnt clog it up with video after video. When I update the new oz video sections I do put multiple links in at a time, but I really only do this 3 or 4 times a year because there isnt really alot of great aussie rock constantly popping up. In fact there are probably only 3 or 4 songs I would add to that thread since its last update nearly 5 months ago.

This practice takes up a lot of space.

And bogs your browser down like crazy trying to load them all ;D

I really hate it when 1 reply has 4 or 5 youtube links in it! (Embedded)

I like being able to DISABLE ACTIVE-X in my browser, then when i view a thread,ALL THE YOUTUBE LINKS ARE JUST LINKS! (Which doesnt bog my browser)

I couldn't agree more about this problem. A double nuisance is the posters that feel it necessary to quote another including the multiple videos! They should be taken out back and given a rude wedgie!
