Altered, yes. I can't tell you exactly what they are, because they would get altered, heh heh.

Basically though, all variations of the f word are not allowed, nor the c word, nor sh*t (asterisks are okay to use). There are some others having to due with racial slurs and spam.

If you want to know if a word is censored, type it in the message box and hit the preview button. If it's changed, it's a banned word. You can leave in the changed word if you like.

I'm sure you've already seen the forum rules. If not, there is one line that pertains to the question you ask:

"Intentionally bypassing the profanity filters via spaces, misspellings, phonetics, ASCII, etc. isn't allowed."

Welcome to the site, MrCleveland.

So, MrCleveland ... for instance ..... there's a four letter word regarding excrement ... that begins with an 'S'. The second letter is 'h'. The third letter .. I know it's a vowel ... just can't remember which one  :P .... and that last one is a 't'.

If you were to type that in .... it will end up being 'Sheesh' .... and you can see that in the preview. Apparently ... and I never knew this till reading this thread ...... trying to get around all that by doing something like  this ...........  'Sh!t'  ......... well, that's a 'no-no' !

Oh sh!t. I hope I don't get in trouble here.  :-X  :-[ :( :\'(

Well, ^ that wasn't 'intentional' ... it was an accident !  :P

Well, .... that's MY  excuse !  :D ;D

P.S. Well, I've certainly gotten away with THAT one in the past. I think it depends on the context. There are rules, and there are rules. A lot of people here have broken rules, with no consequences. You find your feet / see what the long standing members are posting .........

I wouldn't say no consequences... but if the mods see it (or it was reported) you'll get an email from someone asking you not to do it.  We did ban someone because they insisted on repeatedly trying to foil the filter after being asked to stop.

no one has ever been banned without being asked to stop doing something.  aside from spammers, I think we ban three people a year, and it's usually because they've upset a lot of people... it's not as often as people seem to think
