Subject: Famous People The Non-Americans Haven't Heard Of

Written By: Bobo on 10/05/03 at 00:55 a.m.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who, when some of you guys over in America mention a famous personality, says "I have absolutely no idea who that is, but would really really like to know so long as it doesn't kill me."

So I was thinking: what if we tried to know who all of these people are.

I shall now throw open to floor to a reception of "Hey, that's a very stupid idea," or "hey, I've got an idea for the first person in this list."

Anyone up for it?

Okay...

I have heard of Lord Byron, but what did he do?

Err....There are lots of double negs in your thread title, can I participate?  I am getting confused.

Sorry.

The idea of this thread was that there's lots of people the Americans mention on the board, and I don't know who they are.

So an American person would name a famous personality known mostly in America, and another would tell us who they are, and continue.

Sorry. It's "People the Americans haven't ever heard of" thread. Maybe I should rename the thread itself to make it easier.

Ben Franklin is that guy who wanted to make the turkey our national bird... ::) He also disliked Germans and vehemently spoke out against making German our official language (which was actually considered at one point when the country was new.... :D )

Wrong Ben Franklin, Meriadoc. He is the man that discovered electricity by flying his kite with a key attached during a thunderstorm. He also wrote the "Poor Farmer's Almanac".

Phillip Seymour Hoffman
