I'm not sure if this is the right forum and admins are free to move this topic if it's not.
I am deathly afraid and worried for my friend and her family who live in France. My friend's father is mentally unbalanced and while her parents are separated/divorced, every weekend, she or her little brother go to spend the weekend with him. My friend is 21 and her brother is about 13 I believe. And they both dread it because the father keeps talking about wanting to see the mother, being taken to see the mother and they're terrified he'll kill them or their mother or himself. (this is the same friend whose grandfather committed suicide--that was the father's father.)
I suggested having the father committed to an institution, like when I had my father put in a nursing home when his mind became fragile, but my friend told me that in France, if they put him in, that if he "behaves" for a very short period of time, like 1-3 days he will be released. :o And they'd be back in the same boat again. Like he wouldn't just stay like when I put my father in, even when my father did "behave".
I don't know anything about French law or protocol or anything but if anyone does, do you know of an alternative that my friend and her folks could use. Because I really am very, very worried for them. I know that my friend and her kid brother can't really handle him, and I know he needs professional help.
