Favorite song changes constantly, but right now I'd say. . .probably (I Just Died) In Your Arms Tonight or It's the End of the World as We Know It
Most Hated: Son of a Preacher Man, which I have sang thanks to a game, but it's one that by choice irritates me to no end
Air Guitar: Sadly, Yes quite often (I can't help it on certain songs :D)

I think I'm going to revert the live show down to about 12:30 Eastern today, I was going to take care of some business this morning, but it's raining outside, not crazy about getting wet. . .
Here goes, back to http://www.badave.com/stations on StickAM I'm going live for a little bit testing a few things with the sound quality, anyone who wishes to join me may, probably karaoke more than anything.

Worst part about karaoke is listening to someone try "Black Velvet", which Red Ant can also attest to. Seriously though, when someone does a song that just really doesn't suit their vocals (it can be quite headache forming.

What's wrong with the country mix?
It's all country music. . .you know how I feel about that genre as a general rule, and more importantly, I love variety, I wouldn't exactly love the idea of a "Green Day Mix" or a "Punk Rock Mix" either . . .though I'd buy them before the country mix, I'm not a 'genre specific' kinda guy.

10. Born to Be Wild
9. My Immortal
8. Careless Whispers
7. One Week
6. Drive
5. Black Hole Sun
4. (I Just) Died in Your Arms Tonight
3. Copacabana
2. Unwritten
1. It's The End of the World As We Know It
**Most of the above songs I find to be more fun because of their challenge and impressiveness when it comes to pulling them off, though some are obviously just fun to sing as well (like Black Hole Sun)
Generally Karaoke equipment is pretty strong, though I have seen someone throw a Microphone at a TV once, the microphone survived, but the TV broke. That guy got arrested.

Yeah, oh my good yes
On Karaoke Revolution I was singing I'll Make Love to You by Boyz II Men, this may have been intentional on Konami's part, but it was just awful . . .
It said "Throw your rose on the floor, I'll take my rose off too"
The actual song of course "Throw your clothes on the floor, I'll take my clothes off too"
There are plenty of other examples, but that one always made me crack up

I only run home karaoke sessions, I wish I was a DJ or a KJ, that'd be fun and I think I'd be good at it, but I've never done that for pay--only for fun for family and such. I'm more of a performer though--that's for sure.

Well, if you ever DO decide to get into it opn a more "professional" level, I have some sage pearls to pass to you:
-Be prepared to be bombarded with "When's it MY turn?"
-Also be prepared for people to make the show "all about them"
-Hopefully, you can deal with drunks (this is on the bar scene)
-Try to involve your audience in the show: They're the reason you're there.
-Have fun with it! A personality in the show goes a LONG way.

Interesting .... and ... now I have a few SERIOUS comments to make (who'd ever thought that of 'Mister' ::) ).
Well, I've probably said this stuff elsewhere b4 ... for those who could be bothered to read ....... ::) :P ........ BUT ...
Until quite recently ........ I was a 'trivia junky' ...... and ... (no 'B.S') ... have made a handsome amount of cash out of it, over the past 7 years (?). BUT .......... before that............ I was a 'karaoke junky'. Had to be at 3+ karaokes a week, ........ and ... if I didn't get to sing 3 songs in a night (minimum !) .... I'd be disappointed ! :( :\'(
In THOSE days (circa 1988 + ) I'd often be the VERY first guy to start the show off (trivia host, not counted). To me, that took a certain amount of 'balls'. ... cos it meant I was not likely to be singing from being smashed out of my skull / up their by virtue of 'Dutch courage' (sorry Henk :P ). However .. that would also generally translate to a relatively small /non-existent audience ! :( ... since it was so EARLY in the evening ....
Being one who's ALWAYS loved 'applause' (yeah ... I'm a 'karma whore' ! :P ;D ..... well....... although I was proud of myself for being able to do this 'dare to myself' (and ... believe it or not .... I see myself as reserved ... even 'shy' ? :-\\ .......... well, it wasn't ENTIRELY satisfying for me to be singing my heart out to an almost empty venue. SO ... I'd sorta feel the host 'owed me' .... when the crowd built up later on in the night ....and when virtually every man and his dog seemed to want to howl ? ::). Also, I noticed, the crowd were generally more appreciative/ louder to applaud, later in the night (no matter how good / bad you were ?) ;D
Anyhow ... my 'beef' ? :-\\ Tonight, I went to this venue ... where I've been a number of times sporadically, recently. Unlike venues of late 80's .. this particular host has ZERO problem coaxing people up to sing. So, when I get there ... 15 mins before the show's even started .. this guy's got a table full of requests ! :o However, it soon transpires, that many of those requests are multiple songs from the SAME bunch of people .... his 'regulars'. Now, back in the 80's / 90's .... the hosts of the shows would point out that I had already sung twice .... and if I WAS to get a third song .... (over the course of 3 hours, or more ....) I could count myself 'lucky'. ::) Fact I'd kick-started their evening so many times ..... ::)
Another thing I've noticed (a bit of a digression) .... a lot of these karaoke hosts are good singers ... BUT they love to sing TOO much themselves (?). I mean ... yes ... if I ran the show, I'd want them to all hear how wonderful I am/applaud me ......... BUT .... since ultimately .. they are paying YOUR wages .... I reckon the crowd comes FIRST and foremost. So... I'd only be singing when there was no other option. This ... has NOT been the case at so many venues I've attended. The host has numerous requests ... but STILL loves to hear the sound of their OWN voice ..... and will sing needlessly/ keep their patrons waiting, and waiting .... ::) .. to hear THEM .... when it suits them (again, and again) ! (what ARROGANCE, I think ! >:( )
Anyhow, once again ... 2nite ... this jerk of a host .. who I believe to be a bit brain cell challenged, or just a victim of his own success (?) ... well, I took yet another friend along .. to hear me sing (?) ....but ... table was full of requests, told I'd have a MINIMUM wait of an hour. Whilst I was there ... friend notice same guy/ friend of host .... sang on 3 of 5 consecutive songs we had to endure. In the end ... we both walked out (I did NOT submit a song) ... voted with my feet/ wallet ... went elsewhere ! Oh yes .. and the host was one of those who got up and sang in those 5 or so songs ::) . Well, as long as he's got 'bums on seats' .... I'm just 'pissing in the wind'........ but ... I reckon, it totally 'SUCKS !' >:( 8-P

Whoa! I read your comments twice but still have no idea what you are saying. No offense.

Speaking as a host, I can say that yes, some hosts can be real punks about it.
Personally, I do my best to make sure everyone gets their turn, and that's why I have my system.
When someone submits a song, I write their name down, in the rotation.
This person keeps their place in the rotation as long as they're there.
It doesn't matter if they submit one song or 50.
I personally don't allow "extra turns" in my show, nor do I show favoritism.
I know someone who does those things, and worse, and I want NOTHING to do with runners like him.
See, Alan- you really should come to California, and come party with me!

Well 'midnite' ... I wrote all that last night after a skin-full of beers ... and it makes amazing sense to me (under those circumstances ;D ). Probably too long winded of a post ... but the gist of it is ... I reckon they should encourage new blood .... / give some kind of priority to people who haven't already sung at least once in the night. Those people may not be able to hang around for ages ... and to sit there watching some of the SAME people sing several songs ..... whilst they're waiting to do just ONE .... I find that rather galling.
I won't be bothering with this guy's karaoke again ! Oh yes ... left out that I DID voice my dissatisfaction to him personally ... but he just pretty much said .... 'that's the way I run my show' ::) Well, at least 3 people I've taken there now .... aren't going back either. :P
See, Alan- you really should come to California, and come party with me!
That would be fun ... should I ever get that way again Wayne ! 8)

I will try to explain this VERY slowly ... for YOUR benefit, Belle ::)
Prior to your post ... and you didn't claim not to understand my post ... but that would not surprise me in the LEAST ... in YOUR case .... :P :) ;D ..... there had been 2 responses to acknowledge my most recent post. 'Midnite' ... and 'Hawk'. The 100% then ... comprises two people. Of those two ..... 50% did NOT understand. Does that make ANY sense to you ? (Why do I feel I'm wasting my time ? :-X ::) ;D ).

How fast do the words appear on the screen?
Usually there wold be a line or two. As you need to sing each word it changes colour in time with the music

The changing color part is correct, but how much of the song appears on the screen depends on the brand.
Example- ZOOM, which is the premiere British brand, usually has a couple of lines that show up.
Sound Choice, on the other hand ("top" American brand), shows up to 7 lines of a song at one time.

B.A. Dave:
What part of the country do you live in, and what seems to be the most popular genre of music people sing on karaoke night?
Here in KC it seems like about 75% of people sing country ballads. :P
Not me though. I rock out with my c*ck out. ;D

I think I already know the answer to this one but...
I have something on my Time Warner Cable system called "Video on demand" - for various channels, they will allow you to watch something that has already aired or feature something special about that channel.
I happened to be looking at what programs were on the "Oxygen" channel (I'm guessing it is a channel geared towards women's interests), Anyway, it has something called "Air Karaoke" http://www.oxygen.com/Specials/Video/Affiliates/AirKaraoke/
I wonder if you'd heard of it.

I love Karaoke
My fav to sing is I dreamed last night by the Moody Blues. My very first Karaoke experience was about five years ago, I sang Rod Stewarts version of Reason to believe. Since then I've been known to sing just about anything not always successfully but always having lots of fun.
I also like singing Its the end of the world as we know it, and Imitation of life. One song I thought I could really nail and totally screwed up was
"I only wanna be with you" Dusty Springfield. Total disaster

What are some of the most challenging songs to sing karaoke to?

In my case it was "I only wanna be with you", it was much faster than I had thought. My very favorite Karaoke experience was on my birthday a few years ago. I got a stranger to sing some soul music with me. We sounded great, the whole bar listened and applauded. It took weeks for my head to return to its normal size!!! LOL
My hubby cannot sing but he tries and doesn't care that he can't that we love him anyway!!!I mean bottom line it isn't if you can sing its about having fun. He sang the Bee Gees song Tragedy, the DJ said now that was a tragedy. We sing "I got you Babe together, and I can"t concertrate n his singing cause he throws me off, but I sing with him anyway cause I love him.
