Since I have returned, this might be a good time to answer some questions concerning my band, "Salsa Bella".
So, please- fire away!

How many in the band and what instruments
Currently, there are 4 of us: Lead vocals, keyboards, guitar, congas & bass, and a drum machine.
However, we are looking at a percussionist with a small drum kit.
What kind of music does band play?
We have been unofficially dubbed as "Latin Lounge" music. ;D
We play Latin rock, jazz, blues, country, Salsa, and we also have cross-over pieces.
Do you have any hit records?
I wish!
We DO have a sampler demo, which can be heard on the band's website.

Mostly covers, but we have a few original songs.
Our roster is included on our website.

The short answer is: Yes.

Can I assume that The Girl From Ipanema is a favourite of the band?

No, but we do a pretty good "On Broadway", and a rather sultry "Besame Mucho".
(Not to be confused with the band's joke of 'besame coulo'. :D)

As stated previously, there are currently 4 of us, although we have started practice with a possible 5th.
All-male band, at the moment. Pity, because one or two songs would be great with a female vocalist.
As to who plays what.....that's listed on the website.
(Shameless plug!)

The founder of the band, Julio, has a daughter named Isabella.
He often shortens it to 'Bella'. And since he loves Salsa music, he naturally combined the two.

I think it would be interesting to hear your singing voice, Erin!
Can you do a halfway-convincing Spanish accent?

Yes Q,
That is really his voice. That is what he sounds like. Actually he also did do the back ground vocals on it also.

Not a question so much about the band, more about your own pre-gig warmup related to your ongoing foot or leg problem. Do you have any special preparations regarding your foot/leg before you perform. like do you wrap it, take pain relievers or does it not affect you with the adrenaline rush you must get when the music starts.

Actually that is where I come in. I do his physical therapy every day and I concentrate greatly before his performances and after to make sure he will be alright and help him deal with his limitations and pain.

what a good wife you are Melissa. I know he's talked about his ailments before and the pics with the wheelchair and cane (and by the way, that's a cool looking cane) reminded me that he seems to really put a lot into his performances and I had a feeling that he must do some prep. How fortunate to have his own P.T.

Before a performance, Melissa will do some more concentrated work with me than just the normal, "be-able-to-get-out-of-bed-without-moving-like-a-robot" therapy.
My main areas of concern are my ankles and my calves. Dye to the procedures done on me @ a very early age (tendon splicing & grafting, etc.), my Achilles tendons are very tight, most of the time. Plus, they are only about 1/4 thick as a normal person's, so sprains and tears re of extra special concern.
My band also knows about this, and they are very understanding.

Thanks for the votes of confidence!
I do sing lead, and on the "Suavecito" track, I also did back-up.
I actually was recovering from a throat cold, when we recorded those samples.
As for the songs in question, in the future, it may be possible.
Suggestion: Sign the Guestbook on the website, and pose that exact same question.
As I check the site daily (being the one who also set it up), I can pass it on to the lads and see what they have to say.

Asked the lads about it, and in the future, it is possible we may lay soundclips for those songs.
However, the trick is to get them recorded first! ;)

Does the band play requests from the audience?
The reason I ask is that, around at the time of the early 1990's, I was at a celebratory dinner in what is regarded as one of the best restaurants in London. Playing in the background was a band playing soft pop music songs. In the course of the we requested "Tonight I Celebrate My Love" (made famous by Peabo Bryson And Roberta Flack), the said they don't know it. Number One in the charts then was "Unchained Melody", rekindled popularity from the movie Ghost. We requested that and the band did not know that too. Finally, we request a Beatles love song and the band still did not know that. At that point we gave up and carried on eating and drinking.

No, each performance has been started off with a different song.
Does the band play requests from the audience?
We have not had requests, per se.
At one private party we played, we had been asked to learn a special song.
Since the request had been made about 2 wks. prior to the party, we were able to effeectively pull it off.
"El Son Te Llama", by Orchestra Baobab- it was a toughie, because most of the lyrics were in Wolof (an African dialect). We haven't done it since, but if we are requested to learn something, we do our best to pull it off at least for the performance in question.
well get on it! ;D
Takes frogskins to record!
When we get the new Demo recorded, I'll see what we record. ;)
