Why doesn't he smile much in pictures?

Prince is a really serious man, and I think that he trys to portray a cool, sexy, aura, and all the "cool" people don't really smile much. When I was little, I never saw him smile and thought he didn't. But he has a lovely smile.

@Howard: Yes, Prince drives. (I punched my friend cause they asked if he used a booster seat!  >:( ) But yes Prince can drive. I've seen him driving a Buick in Under the Cherry Moon, and a BMW in a couple of his videos. I hear that he has a really tricked out Porsche. I saw a pic of it once, but since Prince has banned pics like that on websites, I can't find it. I'll put a request in for it though.  :) Like it would't be strange enough to be on the expressway and see a sunny yellow Porsche cruising by. I'll KNOW it was him!  ;D

Does Prince have paparazzi?

I heard he has to remove the heels when he drives...they get stuck under the gas pedal. Yes, he also has to use telephone books to sit on when he drives, in order to see over the dash. ;D

This may have been asked but, what happened the other two girls in Apollonia 6? I thought the other girl with dark hair was hot! ::)

@Howard: I'm not really sure what you mean by your question. Prince doesn't really like the paparazzi and will typically hide from him. (Though I saw him glide right by a TMZ reporter on tv two weeks ago, looking resplendent and popping his collar and all! LOL) But he'll usually block the paparazzi with umbrellas or sheets. Sounds like I'm talking about Michael Jackson rather than Prince huh?  ;) But I don't know why he hats to be photographed. Prince is a good looking man. He's aged well to say he's almost 50.  ;D

@Butterball: I've seen Prince drive and leave his shoes on. I've only seen him without shoes three times in my life. But in his movie Under the Cherry Moon, Prince's character drives his car all over France, and he always hops out with his heels on. And no he doesn't sit on phone books! That's funny.  ;D

As far as I know both Susan and Brenda have left the music biz and are just living thier lives as "normal" non-celeb women. I've heard that Susan resides in Los Angeles while Brenda went back to her home in Massachusettes. (did I spell that right?) And Susan is the other girl with the dark hair. She used to be Prince's girlfriend in high school.  :) Lucky girl. Don't even ask me to name all of Prince's women, I'd be all day. LOL.

@Howard: Apollonia hasn't posed for Playboy, but there is a pic of her going around that really mimicks the one Marilyn Monroe did for Playboy. (Y'know, on the red satin and all...) On the other hand, Vanity has posed for Playboy twice. Once in 1983 and again in 1988. Alot of us are betting that Prince will pose for a ladies magazine. He's come extremely close to it over the years--lying near nude on the back cover of the 1999   album, the Lovesexy cover--which i CANNOT post here!, and of course the infamous butt out trousers. I have a theory and if it's correct, everyone who follows Prince closely has seen him nude, just not all at once.  ::) I got too much time on my hands. LOL. But back to the original question, nope Apple hasn't been in Playboy.  And it's not a personal question--I'm not Apollonia.  ;)

How many styles of hair has he worn over the past 30 years?

I can always count on you for a unique question. I'll divvy up the styles by album era. (And alot of this is based on what I've seen in pics, vids, etc.)

(Starting in 1978)

FOR YOU/PRINCE: Massive afro, then a natural blow out. (Hair was it's natural reddish brown color.)

DIRTY MIND/CONTROVERSY: A short, kind of frizzy do. (Just think his current style and if he had stuck his finger in a light socket.) Also, his hair had been dyed jet black.

1999/PURPLE RAIN: Longish and curls, with added height on the right side.

AROUND THE WORLD IN A DAY: Hair was considerable shorter, much like the current 'do, and kind of lent a bit to the look Liza Minelli was rocking. Black, and sort of spiky pixie cut.

PARADE/UNDER THE CHERRY MOON: Prince wore several looks during this period, the pompadour made famous in the KISS video, a shorter take on the PURPLE RAIN  look and finger waves. (Both of which showed up in the UTCM movie.)

SIGN O'THE TIMES: i dunno, I just didn't appreciate 1987 as a year for Prince.  :( He kind of returned to the PURPLE RAIN hair, but instead of long and loose, homeboy had it pulled back into a ponytail and at some point, he even added little braids to it. Also, this was was the first time in almost 10 years fans got to see Prince straighten his hair.

LOVESEXY/GRAFITTI BRIDGE/BATMAN: Prince maintained the long sleek black hair and for a hot minute, he and Michael Jackson looked quite a bit alike.  ;D (Which I just LOVED as a kid.)

DIAMONDS AND PEARLS/LOVESYMBOL: This was the introduction of the world to the Prince pompadour, much different than the KISS look, it utilized having all of Prince's hair swept up and curled highly with heavily gelled sides. I like it because it was probably the most androgynous I'd ever seen Prince.

THE ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS PRINCE (1993-2000): I've decided that it would be a heck of a lot easier to to lump all seven years where Prince wasn't Prince together. Prince was CONSTANTLY changing his look ad while I probably have no way of knowing what every look was like, there were a few key looks. From 93-95, Prince's hair was still in the huge pompadour and when the EMANCIPATION album dropped, all of Prince's hair came off. Alot was going on in his life. He got out of his contract with Warner Bros, and he married Mayte Garcia and he became a father. PRince's hair got short like it it now with a small version of his symbol shaved into the side of his head. (I so didn't like thhat.) Then Prince introduced reddish brown and golden highlights into the crown of his head, which was pretty. I love him with hightlights. Around the year 1999, Prince then began to wear his hair longer--yielding to my theoroy that he wears long hair every 10 years--and got rid of the highlights. And in a brief moment of insanity--or pure genius--Prince arranged his hair in a bunch of little little braids for RAVE UN2/IN2 THE JOY FANTASTIC.

In the last few years, Prince's hair has prety much reained the same, cut short and occasionally curled for special events. *yawning* I keep hoping that he'll shake it up again like he did back in the day. I miss it.

LOL. That was Apollonia.  ;D If you watch that video closely, you'll see that there are some scenes in it there that were outtakes from the original movie. Two of which I know about are, there's a part where Prince and Apple are "getting friendly" in a barn--that was supposed to occour right after tha part where she jumped into the lake, and the part where Prince rides his Harley near the warehouse that A6 is rehearsing in, he's supposed to get into a fist fight with a memeber of The Time (And get his little booty kicked.  :( )

Anyway, I actually like the song better live though.  :) LOL!

I know for a fact that Prince is influenced by Jimi Hendrix. I've seen him dressed like him on tour, and one of his songs--Bambi--REALLY sounds like a Hendrix tune. (Well, musically, not vocally.  ;) )

I don't think that Prince is influnced by Little Richard at all.I guess they are kinda similar, really flamboyant dressers. Ad for the longest time, i thought that he was Prince's father. He looks like an old version of Prince. But I was wrong.  ;D

Hot diggity darn! I've been waiting for this question forever!  ;D

Okay lemme make it Swarovski Crystal Clear that I do not know Prince personally nor have I ever met him before. I am purely relaying what I've heard other people say.

Let's adress the traits you listed:

Dominant/Controlling: Prince often personally dresses his women,l whether they're performing on stage or just hanging aroun Paisley Park. I read a report where Mayte said tht Prince picked her outfits down to the shoes every morning and dictated how she wear her hair and nails and all...Prince's Paisley Park has an on site salon, but she had to leave to get her hair and nails done. I read that was like shocked.  :o But that's how he works in Uptown.

Shy: In recent years I've read some entertaining stories about Prince's shyness. Actually off stage, Prince doesn't like for people in close quarters to look at him. I know a person who know;s a flight attendand t who worked a flight that Prine took cross country and everyone on the plane was ijnstructed not to look at him. The attendant stole a look at him anyway and when the plane landed, she got fired. Don't know how true it is, but I woulda got fired too. I'd stare at him the whole time just to annoy him.

Punctual: He is NEVER on time. Prince doesn't beleive in time actually and doesnt wear a watch. (Look at all the pics I've posted of him, he's not wearing a watch in ANY of them)  He was almost late for the superbowl.

Artistic: Well I've heard he designs most of his clothes and I know for a fact he designed the purple lame jacket he wore in the 1999 video. I saw the sketch. You gotta be artistic to comed up with some of the stuff he wears. (Why do you think I borrow so heavily from him when I design pageant clothes. I'm actually basing an outfir iff his Raspberry Beret get up.)

Athletic: I know he played basketball in high school and he can play like Jordan in those high heels of his. Amazing. I'd have to knock him on his face just to get the ball. One of his former proteges said that she and he played in heels and he whipped her too! lol!

Women: I dunno, Prince goes through women faster than he goes through heels. You know he actually has his own brand of, um, contraceptive devices called "purple rain coats" that were handed out during one of his tours. I just think that if you are in a relationship with him, you gotta watch him because those hazel eyes of his wander. I heasrd that Mayte broke up with him because he was seeing Manuela (his second wife) while they were married. Actually most of his relationships bleed right into the next one.

But one story had me dying laughing under my desk. Prince was dating a woman named Anna and he broke up with her because she posed in Playboy magaqzine. He said he couldn't date a woman that posed naked. Okay, was he in a coma while he was taking the phot of himself for the lovesexy album? Buck naked on a purple orchid. I know--the poster is hanging on my wall. Or what about him praqncing in the black panties on stage. I got him in concert in those. Man bent over during one of his songs... :o Let's just say he got a little over exposed. That was nerve. Heard he popped out of a pair of lace pants in the 90s--and kept singing! I got a million of them. Especially the panties. He'd do splits in those...man. Wish I could post a pic of him in those, but I don't think it's allowed.

Performances: I think it's quite safe to say that Prince has performed tens of thousands of times. He tours EVERY year and does somewhere in the neighborhood of 75-120 concerts. Toss in public appearances, performances on tv shows and it all really adds up. I wonder just when the man sleeps. LOL.

Dirty Mind (Early 1981) GREAT costume on tour!

Prince was fond of the funkier costumes. I mean the binki underwear and leggings, and the purple embellished trenchcoat. And he LOVED all his Batman era clothing with the little Batman emblems on it. Even the zipper pulls on his boots had the emblem. It was pretty awesome.

His influnces are people like Hendrix and the Beatles. Guys who not only made songs, but played the miusic that went along with it.

I have a question for y'all!

On friday, I'm getting a new cell phone and I want to create a custom Prince song ringtone. Two of my friends have a Prince tone. My friend Stacie's phone rings with the Gett Off scream, and my friend Dion's phone rings with Prince singing the "hoo-hoo-hoo" part of Purple Rain.

So if you guys have any suggestions on what I should use, drop me a line.  And send more questions!  ;D

Yeah, those are pics of Apple. A lot of people say she's had cosmetic work done, but I don't know, and since I don't know her, I can't say for sure. But she looks nice for her age.

And all the pics in my siggy are of Apollonia. (though I am negotiating a new Prince themed one) The two photos in question. One: the pic of her in black with the sheer mesh on her bosom, that's taken from a deleted scene from Purple Rain. If you see the origian trialer of the movie, you see her standing on a street corner in that get up.Two: the pic is from a TV series she did priror to Purple Rain in which she played a Native American woman. Can't recall the name of the show though. Some kind of Quest or something.

@Sir Billzy: I don't feel old. I just a little outta place. I'm only 22 and well Michael and Prince are technically old enough to be my father.  ;D But I don't mind. The age never bothered me. (I think Prince's current squeeze is 25 anyway!) But they look younger than 50, act younger than fifty, and they just don't seem "fifty" to me. And Madonna. Gosh! The woman can dance better than some women half her age. You know, this is funny. When I was 17, I actually had a person tell me, I was TOO OLD to like Michael Jackson. Too old? What? I've seen 80 year olds in wheelchairs groovin just as hard next to 18 year olds at his shows. (Though I'd be scared to take an older person to a Prince conert--scandalous!) And Madonna is cool too.  :)

What did you think when Prince changed his name to the symbol?  What did you call him?  Do you think he lost fans because of that?  And what do you think of the recent contraversy surrounding his decision to not allow any photos of him to be posted on non-official Prince websites, including videos on Youtube that feature his songs in the background?

I didn't really think much of it. I was seven at the time.  :D I continued to call him Prince for a few years. When tv shows started calling him "The Artsit" I was kind of confused. I remember seeing the "Face Down" video on BET and not really understanding it. (it was the death of "Prince") and he revealed himself at the end of the video and I was like "Oh, it's Prince." That was really fuzzy. I was like kind of into Prince but didn't know alot about him. And I was surfing the Michael Jackson wave too. So it's fuzzy. I was excited about seeing him on TV, but I wasn't really allowed to listen to him because my mother thought he was vulgar.  ::) (One of the reasons I dig him, the things I've seen that man do to a guitar  :o It's still a wonder he hasn't been banned in most of the country.)

And as far as the pics go. Um, I don't know. It hasn't slowed down the fans, the galleries are ka-put, but the fans still post pictures. Where do you think I get all the pics of him I post in this thread? And you can still Google him! He's dramatic. If it wasn't this, it'd be something else. I wonder if he wants to sue my friend Dion. Boy's got Prince singing Purple Rain as his ringtone, and Kiss as his voicemail tune. My friend Stacie has Prince's Gett Off scream as her ring tone. And one more thing about the symbol change. There are still some people who don't know he's changed his name back to Prince. Last Chrsitmas, I was shopping with my dad and there was a man from the Salvation Army ringing bells for donations and he noticed the Prince button my shirt and asked me "Is his name still Prince or is it the symbol? He change it back yet?" Then I had to stand there and explain that it was indeed changed back.  ::)

@Midas: I don't beleive an official video for Pop Life was ever released. I know that footage of him from cocnerts performing the song have been shown in the past. And UTCM is my fave Prince movie..

@Butterball: You are absolutely correct. That footage was taken from Prince's birthday show in 1986 from Detroit. I absolutely adore Another lover...It's a wonderful song. I didn't really care for the yellow suit. I liked the Kiss outfit best. (and it's white, pink, and blue incantations on tour.)

@Midnite: "She's Always in My Hair" is a B-side of the "Raspberry Beret" release. I love that song.

I don't loathe the cover of Dirty Mind. I like it. Prince is quite confortable with his body and appearace and didn't mind showing it off. The man is cute, and he was a hot little number back in 1980. And he was alternative and the look he was projecting couldn't get much more alternative or anit establishment than a tan overcoat, black biikini briefs and black thigh high stockings. It led way to the whole wave of androgyny that was ever pressent in the 1980s. And I like that he took a risk. That's what fashion anbd entertainment is about--taking risks. He wanted to set himself apart and be noticed. It worked.  :) All the greats took fashion risks, Prince with the undies, Michael with the glove, Madonna with the pointy bra...and it paid off, people adored them and imitated them and they're still cranking out hits and all are knocking on 50. That's success.

I've never seen the movie "Perfect', but I know the backless trousers debuted in 1991. And Prince wore transparent lace trousers as early as 1983. They looked okay onstage, but when he started perspiring... :o It was something else!

@Butterball: Interesting question. The Revolution disbanded officially in 1986 due to creative differences. The band wanted to go in one direction and Prince was going in another. The band's original keyboardist, Dr. Matt Fink stayed with Prince until 1990.  ;)

As far as I know, Jill, Dez, and Andre and still playing minor gigs from time to time, but for the most part are living "normal" lives.  ;D I loved Dez Dickerson.  ::) He was a cutie. Just wanted to say that. LOL.

How is Prince's new music?  What era is it most like?

The album is pretty good. It's makde from a live performance from the shows he did at the O2 arena in London is a string of his hits. He played recent music like 3121 and Song of the Heart, older music like Girls and Boys and a couple of new jams. Overall, the cd is pretty good. I like it. I've only listened to it once because I want to be extremely careful with the book. I really like it and handle it with rubber gloves. LOL.  ;)

If I had to pick, I really did take a shine to the outfit he wore in the Alphabet Street video. An asymtrical cut turqouise and black jacket with Lovesexy written on the sleeve and Prince written on his thigh om black supertight trousers. @Butterball: Interesting question.  ;) I'd choose Michael Jackson. I'd pick Michael over Prince because I feel that I would get along easier with Michael. He's a pretty laid back man and I know I could be funny and charming and sweet around him and just have a pleasant time. On the other hand, Prince intimidates me. I know he's the sze of a freaking flea, but he does! He's so serious and quiet and moody and I just wouldn't be as comfortable around him as I would be around Michael. Michael would be fun and think of something silly and fun to do, and I'd just rather meet Michael. I've been into Michael 6 times longer than I've bene into Prince. (13 years versus 2) and I'd just rather Michael.  ;D Sorry Princey.  :(

How many import Prince records/CD's do you own?

I don't think any of my cds are imports. I think they're all domestic.  :( But I had to special order about ten of them because my mall has a crappy music store and like all you can get from Prince is Purple Rain and that's it. So that sucks that everytime I want something I have to place an order and wait like 2 weeks for it to arrive. I really wish that NPG store in Minneapolis was still working becaue I would have ordered form there. But of course it played out in the mid-90s.  >:( Princey!  >:( That store was amazing and I'd have gone broke and been eating beenie weenies in cans to afford stuff from there! LOL.  :o

I might look into imports. The one import I want is the UK "tracked" version of the Lovesexy cd.I dunno why, but the domestic version I had plays all 9 songs as one track and it sucks because I only like 2 songs from that album. LOL

you should have used Amazon. It would've been faster and probably cheaper than getting the store to special order it for you.

@Midas: I  don't have any real bootlegged music per se, but I have um, ALOT of Prince concerts.  ;) And all from different tours. LOL. I have the Eye Hate U maxi single, but I dunno if it's an import or not. I snatched it off eBay because I liked the song.  :) The only real, true imports I have aren't Prince at all. They're from 3T, the boy band group from the 90s that was made of Michael Jackson's three nephews--Taj, Taryll and TJ. I had to order all two of thier CDs from Germany because they have a huge following out there. It's pretty much Auf Weidersehen for them here.  ;D

J.Lo looks nice, but I'm a little miffed at Prince. That's the fourth time I've seen him in that jacket. Not to be all tight about it, but I saw him in that coat at the ALMAs with Shelia E, Out and about in NYC, and in his new BOOK! I know Prince gets 30 pairs of new shoes a month, would it hurt to get a few new tops? Prince is a sexy man, he doesn't need to really be a reapeat outfitter like that. LOL

the movie was alright- if you're into that kind of comedy. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either.  The song can barely be heard in the background during the film but it plays over the credits...so you can really hear it if you just skip to the credits.

I can't recall what the programme was but I saw Rosie Gaines do a version of Nothing Compares 2 U and it was dreadful.  She sang it in an almost country style!  8-P  No idea if that's how Prince sings it - I don't recall ever hearing his version.  Is it on youtube?

  Random remembrance - I remember when Prince came to the Bay Area in '84 attendance at my high school dropped noticeably for a day or two... :P

Gosh, I guess I kind of got into Prince from the radio and MTV. I saw him on 91 MTV VMAs in the backless trousers when I was 5, but had no clue he was. A few years later one of his songs came on the radio and my mom was saying how she hated his voice (The song was "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and it's really high pitched in that) and I just always kinda was curious about him. But for years, I wa sunder the assumption that he was Michael Jackson enemy and out of respect for Michael, I didn't have anything to do with him really. (I was a child and didn't know any better.) A couple years ago, after Mike went into seclusion, I was bored and went poking around Prince's websites (After I saw him on American Idol) and found out that there was no bitter blood between him and Michael. Not even a fight over an eyeliner pencil! LOL!. And I dove right into Prince. And now I'm a huge fan.  :)

Apollonia is a different story. Very early on, I didn't know anything about Prince except that he was cute and could play the hell out a guitar. I bought a copy of Purple Rain and just thought it was Prince's movie. It never occoured to me that the people in his band were really HIS band, the Revolution and that Morris and Apollonia were singers on thier own. I just assumed that everyone besides  Prince was a hired actor. I kinda lurked around the boards learning what I could and finally figured out  without looking like an idiot that everyone was a bandmate. I liked Apollonia, because at one point in the movie she whacke dPrince upside the head pretty good. I found some of her music through a website for a decent prince, so I got it. It's lumped right in with my Prince stuff. LOL. I kind of like all the Prince associated artists, Apollonia 6, Vanity 6, Morris Day (yes, I dig his music too!) They're all cool! LOL!

And that';s a great tidbit about Prince coming to the Bay Area. I'd be hopelessly broke in 1984. As soon as I'd get donw spending on the Jacksons, I'd have to go get all purpled out for Prince! LOL!

They start squabbling becdause Apple is drinking and a little buzzed and Prince ends up knocking her liquor flask out her hand. She get mad, slaps him stupid and he pushes her down. Check it out.  ;) And that was so dope when the father hit Prince. I listened to the commentary and they said Prince really did fall down when they were shooting that scene. Prince ordered to pay editor $58,000

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A judge has awarded nearly $58,000 to a man who claims Prince failed to pay him for editing work and unreturned equipment.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Gregory Alarcon issued the judgment on Wednesday after conducting a brief trial last month that included testimony from the video editor, Ian C. Lewis.

The judgment fell well short of the $1 million in exemplary damages that Lewis was seeking. Documents show Alarcon also denied Lewis' claim that Prince and his company broke a $25,000 computer because no receipts were provided.

Lewis sued Prince and his company, Paisley Park Enterprises, in October 2007.

Prince's attorneys withdrew from the case and he was not represented during the trial.
