Marilyn owned a white persian cat named Mitsou when she lived in New York in the mid-50's.
I think she was mainly a dog person though.

What is your opinion on her death, was she murdered?

I believe she accidentally overdosed.
I know that she was hanging out with some unscrupulous people towards the end of her life like the Kennedy's and Frank Sinatra but I don't believe they had anything to do with her death.
If anyone, it was her dam doctors perscribing her pills!

Marilyn never posed for Playboy but she was the very first playmate I guess you could say.
She appeared on the first cover in Dec. '53 and there were nude photos of her taken by photographerTom Kelly from 1949 inside.
Hugh Hefner bought those photos for $500 and Playboy sold out their very first issue.

She was just a starlet when she posed nude for Tom Kelly in '49 but she had achieved stardom by 1952, Marilyn starred in 3 films in 1953 - Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Niagara & How to Marry a Millionaire so she was very popular when the magazine was issued.

Dammit, Howard, let's keep it in our pants while in the Marilyn Monroe thread, Mmmm'kay?
Anyway, last night, for the first time, I saw "Some Like It Hot" at the drive-in. I must say her voice was that of a multitude of nails scraping against a chalkboard, her acting left much to be desired, and by the end of the movie, all I wanted to do was eat babies. Seriously, it was quite the torturous experience, which is odd for me, being that I'm such a fan of the classics.
Next to the naturally beautiful Audrey Hepburn, I don't know what people saw in her, really. Maybe I'm just one for brunettes.
Her voice seemed like a major act to me, all breathless and baby-like. Was it the real deal?
Subject: Re: Ask me anything about Marilyn Monroe
Written By: Brigitte on 09/30/07 at 1:43 pm
I'm surprised that you disliked the film so much. There must be something about it that you liked since it was voted #1 comedy by AFI and Monroe even won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a musical or comedy for her role.
As for her singing... that breathy baby voice was part of her trademark. She sang and talked like that because that's what the fans wanted and expected of her.
I have listened to her voice in a few interviews and she sounds quite normal, it's still soft and faint but without the act.
Boop-boop-be-doop!

she’d be considered too fat to model.

Marilyn started her career modeling in 1945 - She's the one in the middle

But your right, by todays standards she would be too fat and short (she was 5' 5") to model.
She could probably do print ads but never a runway model.

She was little, only 5'5. I saw one of her dresses somewhere and I didn't know she was so small. She was probably 120 lbs. These days she would probably be considered too big and would have to go anorexic to get work.

Marilyn reportedly had a red diary to write about her dates with Robert Kennedy. Supposedly, Marilyn wrote about important political issues that RFK had discussed with her. It has mysteriously disappeared. Over the years, several people have claimed to have it but failed to produce it.

She was also pregnant at the time that film was made so she weighed a little more than usual.

Dying early is a cheap way of being a legend. Die when you're at your most famous.
Worked for Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Marilyn Monroe...
Elliott Smith is not necessarily famous, but his death has made his presence (or lack thereof) twice as noticeable.

And that's what pisses me off. There was more to Marilyn than just the look, the curves, and the voice. She was WAY more intelligent than people gave her credit for. Hell, she read books that I wouldn't even tackle, and I read like a fiend! Unfortunately, everyone liked the "dumb blonde" routine, so she stuck with it. That's not to say I dislike her movies. I thought "Some Like It Hot" was great and I thoroughly enjoyed "Bus Stop". "How To Marry A Millionaire" killed me. :D

Marilyn's natural hair colour was reddish brown. It was dyed blond in 1945-46 after her modeling agency suggested she would get more work as a blond.

So we'll never know the whereabouts of Mr.Monroe? ???
Marilyn Monroe wasn't her birth name, she started using that name as her stage name in 1946 when she started modeling. She legally changed it to Marilyn Monroe only 6 years before her death. Her birth certificate states that her mother's second husband, Martin Edward Mortenson, as the father; but some biographers and Marilyn's first husband said that Marilyn, herself thought that a man that Marilyn's mother had an affair with, Charles Stanley Gifford, a salesman for RKO Pictures where Gladys worked as a film-cutter was the real father.

I myself believe Stanley Gifford was Norma Jeane's (Marilyn's real name) father. She once said that she saw a photograph of him and he resembled Clark Gable.
The photo I posted kinda looks like Gable, definitely handsome!

Ok Brigitte
1. What was the first movie she ever saw?
2. What was the first song she ever sang?
3. What was the first word she ever spoke?
4. The number of the first bus she ever caught ?
That'll do, for starters ... :D ;D

I wonder why she, more so then other actresses that died early, has reached legendary status. I mean, I like her, she was very pretty, and she was an ok actress (I liked Some like it hot, but more so for Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis who really hammed it up). She had a tragic life, but she had alot of success professionally. I'm just wondering...what made her image so enduring, unlike Jean Harlow and Jane Mansfield?

2. According to a book I have, the first song was "Jesus Loves Me, This I know"
(The first song she sang in a movie was "Every Baby Needs a Da-Da-Daddy")
3. Not Known.

Marilyn was a cultural phenomenon in the 50's because of all the publicity. She was probably the most photographed star ever, appearing in newspapers and magazines throughout the world.
She is quoted as saying "If I am a star, the people made me a star. No studio, no person, but the people did."
Another quote by Marilyn was "I knew I belonged to the public and to the world, not because I was talented or even beautiful, but because I had never belonged to anything or anyone else."
Marilyn's iconic status has a lot to do with her childhood. She wasn't given much attention as she roamed from one foster home to another, so when a photographer asked to take her picture for a magazine in 1945, she was thrilled and so was the public!
Marilyn Monroe was born!
The public was shocked by her tragic death in 1962 (more publicity) and so magazine tributes and biographies began to spring up about her life story and people were intrigued to know as much as possible about her.
I think she was the last of the female superstars, no other woman has even come close.

When Peter Lawford announced that, ("Mr. President, the late Marilyn Monroe") it was quite prophetic because she was always known to be late and then she died 2 months later.

How did you guess?! ;D ;D June 1st. She and I do have the same birthday, just a few years apart. I was either born in 1983 or 1976 I cannot for the life of me remember. Or if Philip is correct, and the candles last year on my cake reflect how old I am then I must have been born in 2005. Which one, I am so confused. Blonde thinking again! Stand back, my brain might explode!
