Subject: Ask Hawk About:....Well, Hawk!

Written By: HawkTheSlayer on 10/31/06 at 12:51 am

This appears to be a new trend, and I have found it refreshing to get to know people in this manner.
I also hotice that some people have trouble with their bios, and I feel that this is a great icebreaker.

Therefore, I have decided to open myself up, and see if anyone is interested.
So, ask away! I will answer whatever questions you may have about me!
Honestly, even!

You've mentioned that you've lived in both Utah and Nevada.  I too, have lived in both of these states.  What cities/areas did you live in, and how did you like it?

How did you meet your wife?

Melissa and I met while I was in the only semester of college I have ever attended.
I was living with someone she knew, at the time. She came over to see this person, and we met that way.
She told me that she pulled my roommate aside, and asked, "You don't date that kind of man. That's more my type. Why are you with him?" The roommate (who was also my girlfriend at the time) told her that she wanted to try something different, as the men she typically went after just "weren't doing it for her".

I broke out of that relationship after about 3 months. The female was too abusive, in almost every way.
Melissa and I have been together for almost 8 years, now; we've been married for 5 years, come May 25th.

You've mentioned that you've lived in both Utah and Nevada.  I too, have lived in both of these states.  What cities/areas did you live in, and how did you like it?

Utah- I lived in Sandy, which is considered a suburb of Salt Lake City. My time living there was not as pleasant as I would have had it, but this is not due to the place itself. It was due to the fact that I was not/am not/will never be Mormon. The people chastised my family, and I was mercilessly picked on, on an almost-daily basis. I was there for 3 yrs.

Nevada- From 1983-1986, I lived in Elko. Back then, it was still a small town. (Technically, I was in Spring Creek, which is an hour or so drive through the mountains, to get to.) Except for the fact that I had no friends- really, it was OK. I then moved to Utah, and in 1989, I moved to Sparks. I was there from mid-1989 to the end of 1994. I graduated High School @ Sparks High (Classs Of 1993). I consider Sparks as the closest thing I have ever had to a "hometown", even though I was born in Virginia. Living in Sparks was interesting, and infinitely more pleasing than Elko, for me.

When did you get an apartment and moved out of your parent's house to start living with your wife? ???

At the time I moved in with Melissa (then fiancee), I was not living at home- I had been living on my own- or at least with non-related people- since 1997.
At that time, I was living with my best friend and his wife, out on Pacific Heights Road.
Their place was too far for me to walk into town from, and I had no income of any sort. I was not on Social Security, nor was I employed. I was starving, and I was in too much pain, physically, to do very much about it.

Melissa & I moved in together on 9/11/98. (Ominous, isn't it?)

How does it feel to have a wife? ;)

Subject: Re: Ask Hawk About:....Well, Hawk!

That can be taken a few ways...

If you mean- 'How does it feel to be married?': I have only asked 2 women in my life to marry me. My first fiancee said 'yes', then threw me out of her life a few months later. I discovered she was keeping some big secrets from me- involving infidelity, theft and MPD. I'm glad I didn't marry her.

Melissa, on the other hand, is one of the best wives a man could ever hope for. She has been 100% supportive of my dreams, goals, and aspirations. She is also the only woman I have ever been involved with who is not physically abusive towards me. To me, that says a lot!

If you mean- 'How does it feel to have a wife?': There will always be times where fights, arguments, debates and differences of opinions will occur. Get through them as best as you can, and move on from there. If your relationship is strong enough, you will survive them and be stronger than before.
I personally like being married, and I would change very little, even if I could.
There are also times when you will inevitably acknowledge other women's beauty around you. The trick is to acknowledge it, and then focus that feeling so that it goes back to the woman you married. In some cases, this is called "dick discipline".

I'm afraid I can't answer that question truthfully, Howard.

Not knowing her, I can't properly assess her personality, nor will I give an opinion that's based solely on hearsay.

That being said, I have heard you speak about her, and what you have said has not exactly made me want to go out and invite her to lunch.
-No offense!

I grew up in Cottonwood Heights, which is just a hop skip and a jump from Sandy.  My mom actually grew up in Sandy.  What schools did you attend?  Don't even get me started on being non-Mormon in Mormonville.  It is such a bunch of crap!

As for Nevada, I lived in Carson City - not too far from the Reno/Sparks area.  I too, loved living there.

Now for the ultimate "small world/spooky moment," my husband and I are seriously thinking about moving to Virginia.  No kidding.  :o

I attended 5th-8th Grades in Sandy.

5th grade- Altaville (I think. I remember the mascot of the school was "The Kittyhawk".)
6th Grade- Indian Hills Middle.
7th & 8th Grades- Crescent View Middle. (I was part of the 1st class to go through that school, when it was brand-new.)

How many bands have you been in?  What bands are your personal inspiration?

To tell the truth, I have only been in 3 bands:

The first, was a band called "Death Wing". This was a band that was primarily influenced by groups such as the Misfits and Danzig. I was drafted, and I went with it, because I had nothing better to do, at the time.
Plus, I don't do death crap.

The second- A band that I put together, but we never actually went anywhere. A pity, because we had some killer potential. We were called "Armada".

The third- The band I am currently in, "Salsa Bella". Ironically, this band is one I had no real hand in forming, but I am the most recent lead vocalist. Also ironically, I think this band will be the one that goes furthest, until I can form the ideal band for me, which has been a vision for years.
My ideal band will be called "The Legion Project".

On the other hand, I have worked with several bands- usually them backing me up.

How did it feel living with your Mother And Father?

Subject: Re: Ask Hawk About:....Well, Hawk!

How did it feel living with your Mother And Father?

I didn't live with my father. In fact, I haven't even seen him since I was three.
My parents were divorced before I could consciously remember.

Living with my Mom was almost surreal.
She was on the road more often than not (being a high-octane entertainer tends to do that).
As a result, I have lived in roughly 1/5th of the U.S. Rarely for more than 6 months-1 year at a time.
I grew up with a rather liberal view on most things.
As the result of growing up in a prejudiced family, I also believe I came away with more temperate view, when it comes to race, sexual orientation, and so on.

However, there were times when it was hard for me. For example, when Mom went to Indonesia on Command Performance, and she was there for 3 months. Having no friends as a child, and having 2 older siblings who were either more interested in their own lives than taking care of me, or hating me enough to essentially leave me alone and not care, I became really attached to my mother.

However, for the most part, I would change very little, if anything.

Teela's name wasn't intended that way- it just sort of happened.
My wife and I decided that when we discussing children, we wanted unusual names.
However, we also wanted them to be family names.
For the females- the 1st name would be form her side, the middle name from mine.
For any males- The 1st name would be from my side, and the middle from hers.

We are hoping for a son, by next year. His name will be Isaac.

Believe it or not, my first experience was when I was 6.

I played Prince Malcolm, in MacBeth.
I was in the Arizona Royal Shakespeare Players, at that time, under the direction of Anthony Cresswell.
I remember it, because he was so amazed that I knew that kind of stuff at such a young age.

For the most part, my mother was my main trainer. She was the Top Dolly Parton Lookalike Entertainer in the world for almost 15 yrs., and she was among the very first to pioneer a "Tribute" show to someone who wasn't dead. Guess who she tributed?

Otherwise, I have had chorus training while in various stages of school. In High School, I was part of a group called "Skyfire", which was the 2nd best Performance Show Choir in the US (just behind BYU), and 5th in the world, when we competed in an Internation Performance Choir Competition in Vienna.
For the most part, though, I guess you would call me "self-taught".

As for 'Sweeney Todd'- I know of it, but have never seen it. I'd check it out, though. It's a Broadway musical, so I'd try it at least once.

Define "healthy".

If you mean "Healthy appetite"- yes, most assuredly! Particularly for Greek food.

If you mean "healthy food choices"- sometimes. I have been following a modified Atkins diet, for about 6 months. Of course, with my salt cravings, I do sometimes slip off the wagon, and have a bag or two of pretzels or a candy bar. I am currently around 265 lbs. However, it is not all fat.

I also study Sumo- the martial art. Considering that I have rather poor balance and a large frame, it's the perfect martial art for me.

There are a couple of videos of it-one with Angela Lansbury (in her Tony winning role) and one with Patti LaPone. (George Hearn was in both of them) Both were filmed on stage.

BTW, there is a hair place around here called Sweeney Todd's. Not a place I would want to go to have my hair done.  :-\\

My Member Handle is the title of a B-rated fantasy film, from 1980.

It stars John Terry, the late Bernard Bresslaw, Morgan Sheppard, Ray Charleson, Peter O'Farrell, and Jack Palance.
It also features Patricia Quinn and the late Roy Kinnear.

This was a film I grew up with, and despite how corny it is, I love it!
I want a copy of it in my video library, and I have even sat down, and re-written the film itself, so that it could be re-done, but better. I feel that it would work its way into the hearts of the public, but I have been afraid to try panning it out, for fear of rejection or lawsuits.

I am not generally on during the weekend, as I have band practice on Saturday days, I run karaoke Friday & Saturday nights, and Sunday is "Family Day". On Sundays, I spend that time with my wife & daughter.
Yesterday, I didn't have much chance to get out on here.
Hopefully, that will change in the not-too-distant-future.

Melissa is well...just with a lot on her mind.
That happens, at the beginning of each month, when you're a Multi-Property manager.
Logging rents, communicating with the Owners, etc.
Plus, with our vehicle being down for over a month and not having $3,000+ to fix it is not exactly helping.

Teela is learning how to sing. In fact, she has helped the old man with singing rehearsals! ;)
One of her favorites to sing with me is "Love Will Find A Way", by Pablo Cruise.

She is also VERY artistic. She loves to draw/paint pictures. She likes colored pencils and watercolors, but wants very badly to work with "real" paint. She does not like crayons.
She has shown a natural rhythm for dancing, and is interested in ballet. She also has told me she wants to learn piano. I tend to think that just comes from when I am practicing or composing, and she likes the fact that my keyboard/synthesizer can make many sounds, etc.

Nothing in the way of acting yet, although she has a very vivid imagination, and loves to pretend and role-play. Since my mother has been visiting, we have watched many style shows on TV, and one of Tela's new phrases is  "How do I look?" ;)

How do you keep yourself busy during the day?

I devote 2 hrs. per day to my vocal practice. This is not only to help me keep my edge vocally, but also proves vital for me to learn the Spanish material I sing. This is also time for me to loosen my voice up, work out the nasties, and learn new songs being initiated into the line-up.

I help run the apartment complex's office, from 1-5 pm. My daughter comes home at 3:35, and I try to keep up with her. (Sometimes that can be HARD to do! ;))

Lately, I have been getting out, pounding the pavement with demos in hand, and meeting with potential gig bookers. I also have been attempting to start an exercise regiment.

There are several ways I use my downtime-

Enjoying food, reading, keeping up with my French practice (I studied 4 yrs. in school), playing games, watching films, studying comedy, working on new lines to deal with hecklers (One fellow member has given me a LOT of help there!), practicing my piano, and currently working on a novella for a contest I plan to enter. (It's a murder mystery novella, for the "Black Orchid" nomination). I am also completing applications for "The Amazing Race".

There are myriad ways to enjoy one's downtime, if one only takes the time.

I have not heard enough of their music to have formed an opinion of them.
This comes from not listening regularly for about 15 yrs.!

Do you like 70's music?

Depends on the artist.
There are some artists who were big in the '70s that I particularly enjoy, such as The Who, Peter Frampton, Nazareth, Kiss, Peter Gabriel, and Gary Wright.

There are also some I don't care as much for, usually because they were overplayed.
Examples are Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bad Company, the Rolling Stones, and to a lesser extent, Deep Purple.
(Although I like the song "Woman From Tokyo".)

From the following decades:

1950s- The Crew Cuts (known for their one-off 'Sh-Boom')
1960s- Bob Dylan (I can't understand half of what he says!!!!)
1970s- Lynyrd Skynyrd (Too many hits that were overplayed.)

I guess you could say that, yes, I am a fan. In fact, I'm applying for TAR 12. (They've already casted for TAR 11.) I have seen almost every episode from TARs 1-8. However, I am not above re-watching the past onres, in order to study strategy.

I haven't seen it this season. However, I can tell you who I have liked in the past.

For example, in TAR 5 there was a team consisitng of a "little person" and her cousin. I liked them because the little person, Charli, was physically challenged in some ways- like me.

Currently, I am studying TAR 6. I like 3 specific teams:

Lori & Bolo- Professional Wrestlers (I was a big fan of wrestling, at one time)
Don & Mary Jean- The oldest couple to make it onto TAR. (Currently, they're in last place.)
Gus & Hera (Father/daughter team. Dad was in the CIA, as well as a former surgeon; daughter was a nurse.)

Who do I like least? Honestly, there are 3 types of teams I don't care for:
1. Teams that try to get away with rule-breaking. (They usually gripe & moan about getting penalized.)
2. Teams who have some sort of negative attitude. (Like having the "Better-Than-Thou" attitude, for example.)
3. Teams that deliberately back-stab.

As for favorite locations, I don't know where they've gone so far on the current one, but I know some of my favorite past locations.

Included are: Stockholm, Sweden; Dakar, Senegal; Paris (I have actually been there, and I speak French fluently); Brazil; Switzerland; Singapore; and St. Petersburg, Russia.

There is only one place I absolutely refuse to travel to: Antarctica. No people, and too remote.

Also, way too cold!

I've only been watching it for, I think, three seasons, but I am totally addicted.  It is just so captivating.  I would be so excited if you were on it!

This season, I'm rooting for the Cho brothers.  They just seem like all-around great guys.  I just wish they'd play a little bit harder and not worry so much about their friends.  I like the blondes because they are good at the game, but they are also kind of shady, which I don't like.

Hawks were my favorite birds as a younger child.
Then it wen to peregrine falcons.

As an adult, I tend to fancy 3 birds:
Rooks, condors, and Amazon lilac-crested parrots.

I got the chance to see it this past Sunday night. The Chos are cool, but I don't like the Black ladies (attitude), or the Beauty Queens (too stuck-up for my taste).

Thank you for the vote of confidence! I hope to see your excitement, if/when I get chosen!

I don't care for that expression either.  But it is a part of American culture now.

When I was 5 (and my cousins were 15 and 13), they used to tease me unmercifully.  They taught me (incorrectly, of course) that giving someone the finger meant "Thank You".  So soon after they taught me that, my mom and I were walking across the street, a car stopped and let us pass in front of it.  My mom says "Thank you" and I give the lady the "finger" (thinking that I was also saying "Thank you.")  Boy did I get in trouble for that one.  ;D

Unfortunate. True, but still unfortunate.

No wonder other cultures calls Americans "barbaric and vulgar".

I have always preferred to use my words and wit to combat others. Unfortunately, I usually go up against less-educated people most of the time, and since I am used to speaking with large words and obscure phrases, most of the time they don't get it.

My brother Stuart is a perfect example of what I mean. We grew up in the same family and were raised with the same education. But he has always resented how I speak because I speak "like a University professor", and I "can't just say it plainly", to use two of his favorite quotes. Because I can disarm and befuddle him so easily with the vocabulary that I naturally am used to, he resorts often to puerile name-calling and obscene gestures.

Does this not seem even slightly pretentious or obnoxious to you?
I realize that as a simple roof-monkey I probably fall under the category of 'less-educated people' so please forgive me if somehow, owing to my oversight, I have managed to miss the subtle sarcasm that perhaps lurks within these words.
Regardless, it does still suggest that you are putting yourself up on a pedestal here, a course of action which is not always beneficial to the further attainment of one's goals.
Furthermore, I believe this great country of ours (regardless of how barbaric and vulgar you may believe it is) was built on hard working, blue collar individuals, who may well have used puerile conjecture and obscene gestures, not as a last resort but as a common bond, keeping themselves apart from the more upper crust, elitist and often snobbish class obsessed supervisors.

I believe Lynyrd Skynyrd said it best with these words -

"Yeah we love our families, we love our kids, you know it is love that makes us all so rich. That's where were at, If they don't like it they can just get the hell out!"

So, in a show of good faith, in an attempt to bridge the obvious barriers between us, as one man to another, I will exchange a simple gesture of friendship.

You misinterpret what I say, Davey.

When I say "less-educated", I mean that there are those who have more of a mastery of the English language than simple profanity, but either through accident or design they use the profanity...sometimes for no other reason than to spite others.

I am not stating, nor will I ever state, that I am better than a "simple roof monkey", to use your term.

Because of how I naturally speak, people seem to think that I surround myself with airs of snobbery and arrogance. What causes those thoughts? The fact that I don't speak like the average person? The simple stating of that fact? Or is it that people jump to conclusions, without thinking that there is more than one way to take what people say? Perhaps a bit of both.

Frankly, I applaud your candor and honest thoughts. And I admit that profanity does have its place. Hell, Shakespeare was one of the most profane authors ever, and he is considered one of the "classic" authors.
Chaucer also had his moments, and he happens to be one of my favorite authors of all-time.

Think upon this, my friend: There is a time for vulgarity, and a time for intellect. Wouldn't you agree?
And just because one eschews the other, doesn't make either of them better than the other...just different.
If you want to be profane, go for it. I just respectfully disagree. (BTW, I was once a wrestling fan, too. That's why most people embraced Stone Cold...he was a blast of profanity in the face of the corporation. Profanity sells today, just as intellect once did, and maybe will again. Nice one!)

I think we should keep the birds, and just not make them mean what they do.

This is a nice thought, but what could they mean? Maybe we could use it in a secret handshake or something.

So you're saying that those who make a conscious decision to use profanity when other more 'eloquent' phrases are available are operating on a lower mental plane?
Sometimes, the best way to communicate a point is to make a very simple statement.
The main reason behind the astronomical success of Mr. Austin was that he was the anti-hero as it were. He was the rebel personified, something that the corporate world has tried for years to quell from the spirit, yet he was able to rise above his station and stomp a mudhole in every sumbitch who got in his way.

I don't think that people who use profanity consciously are operating on a "lower plane" per se.  In the proper context, it's quite fun to swear like a sailor.  I've had roommates in college and fellow graduate students and even professors who can cuss until your ears bleed.  But in so-called "polite company" they will bring it down ten notches and display great eloquence.  My roommate at Duke, who dropped F-bombs with impunity, would challenge me on a regular basis at Scrabble, and I'd say that he won about 2/3 of the time (we were usually within 30 points of each other no matter who won) because he had a superb vocabulary that exceeded my own.

I used to swear up a storm too, but ever since my baby was born I toned it down quite a bit.  I think profanity is more contextual than a sign of how intelligent one is or how well they have developed their vocabulary.

Go to the website where they have "TAR" applications. I can't remember the website off-hand, but I found it through a search engine. You might find it on cbs.com.

Print up the application (you'll need 2- one for each member of the team), and fill it out. You also have to send a 3-minute VHS tape, showing your team, and explaining why you are applying, and why they should choose you.

They also have a list of requirements that you must pass, before they will clear you.

-I hope this answers your question.

Property Management is a bit different from most jobs, depending on who you work for.

If, for example, you work for a private owner (meaning the owner is not affiliated with a Property Company), you could technically be on-call 24/7! It would also probably require you to live on-site, and have the Office open a minimum of 5-6 days per week.

On the other hand, if you work for a company, then you can get anywhere from 40-60 hrs. per week, and decent benefits. You may or may not live on-site, and you have more responsibilities, which also carry certain priveliges.

Melissa is currently being considered for a place in Sacramento. The company has been around for 50+ yrs., and has property in 4 states. (See the "Feel Any Way" thread.)

The fundraiser was a good learning experience.

Overall, I was generally pleased with the sound.
However, each of us made a few bumbles.
I know that I had trouble with the acoustics, and that made for a muted sound check.

Also, the energy levels weren't quite there.
Probably because the audience saw the entertainment as an afterthought.
I am one of those entertainers that feeds off of crowd energy.

So, it wasn't as good as it could have been, but it was a valuable learning tool.

The Dec. 1 gig will be much better, I'm sure.

Taking a baseball bat to her parents isn't a good way to get them to like you, Howard.

You can't make someone want to be with you.  Calling them constantly, constantly asking them to get back with you........it doesn't work.

Howard-

Here is a visual, so that you can see the point that everyone out here is attempting to get through your head:

You are a battering ram. Robin & her parents are a thick fortified wall. You keep butting against the wall, hoping it will break. The wall isn't breaking anywhere. It's like trying to break the Great Wall of China.
Sooner or later, the ram is going to break off, and be useless for anything.

You refuse to listen to any & all reason, insisting that Robin will take you back, and you'll have sex, and everything will be dee-dee-dee and hunky-peachy.

-Is the visual clear enough for you, sir?-

Sometimes people hold onto hopeless situations to avoid being alone.
I know this, because I used to do the same thing.
When I did it, I ended up in abortive, often abusive relationships- physical, mental, emotional, sexual...you name it, it happened.

I would spare you that grief, Howard.
But you can only avoid it if you are willing to open up the dense matter that makes up our cranial cases, and be willing to explore the possibilities.

If you can't/won't do that, then may God go with you, for none of us will.

........I think this is turning from "Ask Hawk", to "Dr. Hawk's Psychotherapy 101"!
Should I start charging for this??

Poor Gis!

Well, here is the nutshell version:

Friday night, we got there, and the place was packed!
It turned out to be more high-brow than I thought.
(Any place that charges an average of $75/meal SHOULD be considered as such!)

We were asked for a 2 hr. show, and ended up doing a 2 1/2 hr. show.
The audience ate us up (no pun intended!), and even the bartenders were trying to catch a piece of the action.
One of the members of the band who cancelled showed up, and could not shut up about how sorry he was to have dropped the ball! The truth was, his band is quite sub-standard, from a professional standpoint; they performed once, and instantly saw that they needed improvement.

With that being said, we showed superior musicianship that night, and the owner now wants to book us at least once per month.

Our keyboardist, Julio, & I earned kisses from audience member...mine on the cheek, and Julio's on his forehead. (Yes, they were female.)

Does this answer your question, hopefully?

Who do you look like more,Mother Or Father?

My father, hands down.

what is your favorite animal, and why?

My favorite animal is the frog.
Not sure why. Perhaps it has to do with their croaking being a soothing sound to me, or maybe because of "The Frog Prince".

When we discussed names, we agreed that we wanted family names.
We found two of Melissa's great-aunts, Tee McDonald, and Leila McNamara.
"Tee" was too short, and "Leile" didn't seem quite right.
Thus, we combined the 2...and "Teela" was the result.

Howard-

Sit down & think on this, for a moment-

When was the last time you heard a good compliment from her, about you?
When was the last time you heard her say anything positive about you?
Have you ever seen her remotely interested in you for who you are?
Have you ever seen her interested in you in more than just "titles"?

I know you're gonna dig your heels in, and tell me to change the subject, but you must hear this, my son-
Find a woman who's willing to:
A- Treat you as well as you treat her,
B- Be supportive of you, no matter what, and
C- Show you a little "somethin'-somethin'."

Until you do this thing, you will not be able to advance to the 3rd Grade.

Do you like to cook, Hawk?

I'll answer these in order:

1. I do enjoy cooking. I am not as proficient as Melissa, but my cooking has never killed anyone, or inspired a round of starving like Gandhi.

2. Depends on the restaurant. For example, @ Sultan's Bistro in Chico, I always get their Greek Sampler platter. (Greek food is my favorite ethnic food) On the other hand, I also enjoy a good Veal Saltimbocca, which is Italian; Hot Shrimp Gumbo (Cajun), Tandoori Chicken (Eastern Indian), and Dragon Ebi sushi (Japanese).

3. To tell the truth, there is only one dish Melissa has made that I would not eat again: El Pato Beans. (She claims there were no thermal spices, but something in the way she cooked it rendered it inedible after more than 1 helping.)

What countries have you been to?

France, Switzerland, and the Bahamas. (I don't count the 24-hr. bus ride through Belgium.)

What states have you been to?

I have lived in: California, Nevada, Texas, Utah, Kentucky, Arizona, Ohio, Virginia (I was born there), West Virginia and Louisiana, I believe.

I have been to the additional states: Oregon, Florida, Nebraska (got a speeding ticket there), and Missouri.

There may be more, but those are the ones I remember for certain.

Depends on what you term as "dress clothes".
If you mean- 'Do I like to dress formally?'- I prefer to dress more formal. I only wish I had a few more suits and some vests.
If you mean- 'Do I like to play "dress-up"?'- Sometimes, but I am NOT wearing that French maid outfit!

Have I ever worn a tuxedo? Yes, a few times- on both my Junior & Senior Proms, at a friend's wedding, and as part of my costuming, when I competed on "So You Want To Be A Star".

And, it gives us incentive to get away from it.

My very first job was working as an assistant for a Medical Supervisor, who lost his sight completely, due to glaucoma. In addition to helping update his home files, I helped with housecleaning and feeding his parakeet. I started @ $4 per hour, and worked up to $6. Average shift was 6 hrs. a day, when I worked.

Where in Ohio and West Virginia have you lived?  I live (or have lived) in both states at one time or another.

Ohio- I lived in Cleveland, and often visited my uncle in Euclid.
West Virginia- I believe it was Richwood, where my mother was born.

Not sure how to word this...

Do you consider yourself a fast-paced, energized type personality, an adrenaline junkie or are you laid-back, easy going personality or some other type of personality?  Do you plan everything down to the Nth detail or just like to play everything by ear or somewhere in the middle of those two?

Depends on the circumstances.

Onstage, I'm energized and on the adrenaline rush (I feed off the audience energy).
Offstage, I am rather laid-back (unless I'm stressed), often mellow and sometimes what is called "lazy".
Stressed, I tend to be manic, abrasive, and short-fused.
When details are necessary, I plan as far as I can...but I usually prefer to play it by ear.

Yes, I must admit that I do sometimes have a temper.
I believe we all do.

Unfortunately, mine is a combination of Italian grudge-holding and Swedish berzerker.
I tend to have a long memory when it comes to those who have wronged me.
I also am not a violent person by nature, but if I am pushed hard enough, I go into a "berzerker"-like rage, and cannot really stop myself until that rage is passed.

(To find out more about berzerkers, look under "Viking Berzerkers" on wikipedia.com)

No, I have never thrown chairs.
I only become violent if I am attacked first, and it has to be full-force.

When that DOES happen, it's kind of like I step outside of myself, mentally.
I mean, I see my body snap, and start swinging, but my mind is powerless to stop it, until that rage is ended.
I understand this about myself, and I resolved within myself, a long time ago, never to release the full amount of anger I possess on anyone.
This is simply because I don't know what would happen, but I have seen others do it, and where it took them.
I don't ever want that.

I enjoy doing the following in the snow:

-Inner tubing
-Sipping hot chocolate, spiced cider & the occasional Hot Toddy
-Making snowmen, snow angels, and snow forts
-Having snowball fights
-Sledding
-Stuffing a small snow flurry down the nearest target's shirt

I do NOT enjoy the following in the snow:

-Shovelling
-Slipping on my dupa
-Breaking hard ice
-Digging
-Sleeping
-Hitting rocks/trees while inner tubing or sledding

That's a rather braod question, but I will see what I can come up with-
PHYSICALLY- I can do the Vulcan "Live Long & Prosper" sign with both hands and feet.
MENTALLY- I have always been told that I have a "unique" method of thinking. I have what is called "an encyclopedia mind". This goes hand-in-hand with photographic memory, usually.
For example- when I read, I see the entire page at once, as opposed to one or a few lines at a time.
EMOTIONALLY- I'm more like a mainc barometer, most of the time. That, and I tend to apologize for everything, even if it's not my fault. That's the Swedish in me, I'm afraid.

I prefer to use cursive, when I write.
My printing is a bit sloppy, I'm afraid.
I have always been told that my cursive is nice, though.
I also study different fonts.....comes in handy when "Santa" needs help, at Christmastime.

Wow! What a broad topic!
I applaud you!

Do I like to read? Well, I have over 250 books in my personal library...so I suppose you could say that I like to read, a bit.

Favorite author: Roger Zelazny.
Other highly-ranked authors in my library: Frank Herbert, Rex Stout, Michael Moorcock, Ellis Peters, Chaucer, Shakespeare, H.P. Lovecraft, Jack L. Chalker, and Walter Jon Williams.

Favorite Story By Zelazny: A toss-up between "Nine Princes In Amber" and "Home Is the Hangman".
Favorite Stories By Other Authors Include: "Dune", "Black Orchids", "Elric Of Melnibone", "A Morbid Taste For Bones", "The Canterbury Tales", "Othello", "The Colour Out Of Space", "The Maze In the Mirror", and the Drake Maijstral series.

My main genres of literary interst seem to be sci-fi/fantasy, mystery, and Medieval references.
Movies, on the other hand- I am a comedy, thriller, light horror, fantasy & sci-fi kinda guy.

Yes, I have.
When I was 12, I had a high-powered lamp, but no lampshade.
I foolishly thought that you could stick anything onto the bulb, and it would work.
Important Safety Lesson: NEVER put your brother's tube sock onto a 100-watt bulb.
Another Important Safety Lesson: Do NOT use an ice cube to cool a bulb down.

How was your vacation?

It wasn't a vacation...more of a time to sort things out, get some issues straight, and re-establish things between my wife & I. It really got my head straighter, and she came to understand some things, also.

Not having any friends to speak of in the traditional sense, I have been feeling very lonely and alone.
Yes, I am married- but I need friends, too.
She had a hard time understanding this, but through some self-helping we have done, she has understood how this is affecting me, and now she is trying to be more open.
This makes me happy, and I, in turn, have been able to meet her needs more effectively.

Perhaps people that you run karaoke for or meet with your band, or maybe people IN your band.

I'm the same way though.  I really don't have any close friends offline that I see very often.  I have one friend that lives back where I grew up (about 4 hours away) and I try to see her when I go to visit my parents every couple months...

Otherwise most all my friends are online.

What would appeal to Chris's competitive nature would most likely be the armored fighting.
Now, they do have some sports in the SCA.
More physical sports include grappling (wrestling, without the hoo-hah), Hunkerhauser, and my personal favorite, Sumo wrestling.
More genteel sports include bocci and croquet. Honestly, there IS something for everyone.

The one person I consider my "best friend" at this time lives in Fresno.
Another close friend lives in Sacramento, and just had thyroid surgery.

In some ways, Julio & Steve ("Salsa Bella" bandmates) are friends. However, I haven't even known them for a full year, yet.
With bandmates, it's more of the chemistry between gigs.

I truly wish there were more people I could befriend around here.
Sometimes, the loneliness of not hosting really gets to me.....

That, I admit, is a "negative" for me.
The closest I ever came to that was the Cast Meetings @ Eppie's after the Sat. Night sessions of "Rocky Horror".

However, there WAS an interesting evening I had once, when I lived in Kentucky, when I was 19.
My then-best friend & I went on a blind date with 2 ladies, and they ended up bringing 5 friends along.
It worked out something similar to "speed dating", except he got what he wanted, and I wound up "odd man out", which was par for the course for me, back then.

Well, considering that I really don't follow baseball, and have had to choose an obligatory team, due to that unwritten rule.....

Combined with the fact that I live in an area where certain sports teams are over-hyped (the Yankees are included in this), that's my general catch-all.

I don't "do" a LOT of sports teams.
The ones I DO like, are usually dagged on, anyway, so why should I give a hang?
Doesn't affect me one way or the other....it's not my body on the line.

According to certain codes, each man has to have an "obligatory favorite" sports team in each major sport.
While this does not appear to apply to women, the vast majority of men are supposed to ahere by it.
Hence, the "unwritten rule".

As far as sports teams I favor, here are the following:

Football- New Orleans Saints
Basketball- Last I knew, the Utah Jazz were my boys.
Baseball- I never really cared for it, but to adhere to the rule, I chose the Pirates.
Hockey- Another obligatory pick- The Oilers.
NASCAR- I haven't participated since Daryl Waltrip retired.

I'm sorry, but that makes no sense to me and I've never heard of it.  Neither has my father and I just asked him.  My dad has no obligatory favorite sports team in each sport.  He only likes 2 sports, baseball and football.  No one is forced to enjoy any sport or forced to root for any team.

Seriously....you have to be kidding.  Why in the name of God would anyone root for a team that plays a sport they don't even like?

Actually, I don't root for anyone except New Orleans. (They're underdogs, like me)

Tell me about it.

How d'ya think saggy-butt jeans became popular?
Someone said "hey, they look cool", rap artists believed it, and now about 50% of the human population wears them.

Subject: Re: Ask Hawk About:....Well, Hawk!

Written By: Sister Morphine on 03/21/07 at 6:47 pm

Actually, the saggy-jeans thing started in prisons, as prisoners were not allowed to wear belts.  They'd get accustomed to wearing their pants like that, they'd be released and their friends would see them wearing it, and the trend spread.  It made you look "hard" and "tough", because people would think you just got out of jail.

IMHO, it makes me think of filler putty and spackle.

Honestly- do you think it "hard" or "tough" to see someone's buttock crevice?
The word that comes to my mind is "nauseating". Especially if it's hairy, like mine.

I never said anything about one's butt crack making you "hard" or "tough".  It's the fact that at that time, baggy jeans meant you had been in prison and THAT is what made people think you were hard and tough.  I don't stare at people's ass cracks anyway.

Depends on if you want a 1 bdrm., or 2 bdrm.

In my own complex, a 1 bdrm. place runs $475/month, w/a $785 deposit.
A 2 bdrm. place is $595, w/a $850 deposit.

Depends on the type:

Game- "Deal Or No Deal"
Sci-Fi- "Doctor Who"
Mystery- "Nero Wolfe"
Reality- either "Top Chef" or "Dog, the Bounty Hunter"
Sitcom- Don't watch, anymore. Not since "Red Dwarf" stopped airing in America.
Music- "VH1's Bands Reunited".

I love amusement parks.

I have been to both Disneyland & Walt Disney World, Knott's Berry Farm, The Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, Six Flags in Dallas, Lagoon in Utah, Universal Studios in Hollywood & Orlando, and Marriot's Great America, in San Jose.

My favorite rides are as follows:
Disneyland- Space Mountain
Walt Disney World- The Norweigian Log Ride
Knott's Berry Farm- Bumper Cars (I LOVE those!)
Boardwalk- The Hurricane
Six Flags- The Shock Wave
Lagoon- The Colossus/ Wild Mouse
Universal- There was a "Ghostbusters" ride, when I was there.
Marriott's- The Demon (Have a story about riding this during a lunar eclipse.....WICKED)

I don't have a specific theme for my sessions; they're just karaoke sessions.

Are you talking how much I earn in one session, or how much I charge the singers?

If you mean- "how much do I earn for a session"- It depends on the gig.
If it's a solid place, I usually charge based on travel distance and Gnereal Expenses. For me, $75-$100 is average. I am slightly less expensive than my competitors, but not enough to make them try to drum me out of business.

If you mean- "how much do i charge per song, for the singers"- I don't do that.
Butte County is not a big enough place, population-wise, to do that.
If it were Reno, Sacramento, or a metropolitan area, that'd be different.

I know that in some metropolitan areas, you pay something like $1 per song.
In Hawaii, they have karaoke machines that don't work until you deposit money into them.

How often do you run karaoke usually?  When do you usually begin/end the sessions (what time do people generally feel comfortable enough to start singing)?  I saw a moviie (Duets) that showed that there are karaoke competitions all oover the US that are very competetive and have large cash prizes.  I, however, have never seen one that actually was of a contest type, have you?  Do you have a favorite song to sing that you feel your voice is great for?  What songs are really popular with your karaoke crowd at the moment?  My hubby and I went out with one of my friends from where I grew up about 2 months ago and she sang karaoke, Some of the singers were quite good, some...well I applaud their effort and their nerve to actually get up and sing (I can never get over my own "stage" fright to actually sing in front of a crowd.

What is the average age of karaoke singers do you usually see?

No. In fact, I boycott that damn show, for one reason:
Their 'cut-off' age, for contestants.
Quite a few people ask me, "Wayne, why don't you go on that show?"
My answer: I'm a few years too old.

Hmmmm.
I run karaoke 3 days/wk- Tuesday, Friday, & Saturday, starting between 8-8:30 pm, and lasting from Midnight-1:30 am.
I actually used to run a couple of contests, and have entered a few, myself.
The last one I entered was for $5,000. Unfortunately, I was unable to finish, due to bronchitis.

I don't have a "particular favorite", because there are many great songs out there, and my voice range is fairly flexible.
For me, it depends on the style of music. If you'd like, I can list songs I do, on a later post.
As for "popular" songs with my crowd, these rank among the most requested:

-Picture: Kid Rock/Sheryl Crow
-Strokin': Clarence Carter
-Baby Got Back: Sir Mix-A-Lot
-Before He Cheats: Carrie Underwood
-Honky Tonk Badonkadonk: Trace Adkins
-Play That Funky Music: Wild Cherry
-Hair Of the Dog: Nazareth
-I Hate Myself For Loving You: Joan Jett

However, I have over 9,000 songs to choose from, so I try to have something for everyone.

For some people, they can't get past the nervous stage, without some "liquid courage".
And that's OK. It doesn't matter what you sound like, or how many you've had.
It's all about the fun. I try to be different from the other runners in my area, by being "audience-friendly".
As a result, I attract people of all kinds- from college kids to cats who are 80+ yrs. old.

I can't really give an average, but if I were to guess, I'd say probably between 33-45.

I believe that it helps if the "Runner" can sing, but it isn't actually in the job description.

Technically, all the DK has to do is be able to call the singers up, in a rotation, put their songs into the computer/CDG machine, and say something like, "And that was....(insert the name of the singer). Next, we heave....(insert name of another singer)."

That, my dear boy, is my ultimate career goal.
I want to be a fully-functioning recording artist.

The reason is threefold-

1. I have been complimented by both the average person, and the professional vocalist.
2. I love doing it.
3. What original songs I have written & shared have received good feedback.

I know that I can make it in the music world, if I just get the right chance.

I explained the answer to the "American Idol" thing earlier in this thread.
My problem is: I'm too old.

My reasons for trying out for "The Amazing Race" were different.
I have heard so many "disabled" or "challenged" people say something like:
"I'd like to do that, but I just can't...", either because they'd lose their Social Security benefits, or they fear rejection from the places/shows they'd try for.
Others are simply so set in their beliefs that they defeat themselves psychologically, before they even try.

I want to be an example for other physically-challenged people.
Physically-challenged doesn't mean boundary-confined.

How's life treating you?

As I posted in the "April News" thread, there have been a few changes going on.
These changes are the kind that take a bit of getting used to, but they always work out for the best.

These changes primarily concern Melissa, my wife.
She has discovered a few things about herself, that have opened her eyes up a lot.
In turn, she has relaxed, which has caused me to relax, and the surrounding atmosphere (our home) has become more relaxed.
This change in Melissa's outlook has been subtle, yet very effective.

Needless to say, I've been coping with the changes.

Going through a few adjustments, also.

She is hitting the "galloping greedy gimmes" pretty hard.
And of course, with that comes the "I'm-a-princess" attitude.
(Melissa admits she fostered that!)

She also misses my mother- Mom went to Washington for awhile, to visit my sister & her daughter.

Other than that- Teela's OK, for the most part.

Indeed it does.

Considering we've been together 9 yrs., and we're coming up on our 5th Wedding Anniversary in May....
Yeah, I'd say that says something, at least for me.

When you've been together for awhile, you learn to compromise on the things where you don't agree.
If all else fails, you agree to disagree, and leave it at that.
Melissa & I are quite good at compromises.

And as I said, she's been discovering things about herself that have really opened her eyes.
This in turn has improved our relationship.
It's been about a week since these discoveries happened, and I'm still in culture shock!
It's a good shock, but a shock nonetheless.

Right now, it's a toss-up between "Friends In Low Places" by Garth Brooks and "KKK Bitch", by Ice-T.
Similarly, my least favorite artists are Garth Brooks, Whitney Houston, and most rappers.

Honestly, I'd have to say Rap/Hip-Hop.

It was rather cool when it first came out, but then it became all about "where's my bling" and racial epithets and "how many ho's can ya bang, dawg?".
When Ice-T's "Cop Killer" hit it big, I said, "No more for me".

Certainly I have!

No relationship of which I'm aware has ever been totally smooth, where the two agree on everything!
There are going to be rough points, no matter which way you go about it.
That's why compromise exists.

I'm a Greek food fanatic.

I also like Cajun, Mandarin, Thai & British foods.

As far as individual dishes go, I'd say the following:

-Greek: Spanakopita with hummus & baba ghanouj (yogurt/cucmber dip)
-Cajun: Etouffe (rice dish often served with alligator sausage)
-Mandarin: Orange Cashew Chicken
-Thai: Seafood/Crab Curry
-British: Bangers 'n Mash, or Toad In the Hole.

No, as a matter of fact, I don't.

When you're married, and living in a Community Property state, you tend to split things down the middle.
True, she earns money, and I earn money, but it's not "her" or "my" money...it's "our" money.

-Money may be needed to live, but contrary to Political belief, it does NOT make the world go 'round.
And as the old proverb states: The love of money is the root of all evil.
-Don't believe me? Look at Donald Trump.

That's why I told Robin last night that we shouldn't let money come between us.We both live with our Parents but I can help her out emotionally but not much in the financial part, that's basically her Parents part.I want to help her out as much as I can,I don't want to see her depressed,I enjoy spending time with her a lot and that's why Her And I might have to change each other's schedule to see each other sometime in the future If our supervisor comes up with different days and hours for us.

My dear boy, if Robin REALLY wanted to be with you, money & timing wouldn't matter!

She kvetches at you for not making enough money.
She kvetches at you for not having your own place.
She kvetches at you for earning SSI.

Where I come from, that's called "gold-digging".

When Melissa & I first got together, I lived with some friends in a trailer that hadn't been properly cleaned for years! She was living with her parents, and working at a casino.
She came to see me after she got off work, and always made sure to bring me something to eat, as food in that place was hazardous, at best.
I had no job, and no income whatsoever. That didn't matter to her.
I had no real life! That didn't matter to her.
When we moved in together, we lived on her income until I received my SSI/SSD.

We stayed together out of love for each other.

.......................See where I'm going with this?
Or am I being obtuse?

You have a point there,Hawk.I guess kvetching goes along with the relationship. You have to take the good and the bad sometimes and that's what's it's all about.I guess kvetching is her nature so sometimes you have to complain to get something in life.

Essentially correct. However, there's also olive oil and sometimes garlic mixed in, as well.

If you get the chance, you should also try spanakopita and iman bayildi.
Spanakopita is made in phyllo dough- real light & flaky. Tastes heavenly!
Iman bayildi is made with eggplant, onions, garlic, diced tomatoes, parsley, lemon juice, and olive oil-

I'm so impressionable, I had to have a Gyro today.  It was delicious!  It had the works (Feta cheese, Banana Peppers, onions, tomatos and tsziki sauce.)  It was heavenly.

You can buy (well at least at Cub Foods Grocery store) a box mix of Hummus.  You mix it with water, and like Hawk says, add olive oil and some extra garlic (if you want) and also a squeeze of lemon juice,  It's wonderful.  I buy this brand.

Not bad!
Athenos is my brand of choice, recommended to me by an authentic Greek!
(1st fiancee, who was born just outside of Athens)

We have a place in Chico (about 25 mins. away), called "Sultan's Bistro".
They do Greek & Turkish food.
Every Friday, they even have belly-dancers and a bazouki player.

I was an avid "Ghost Rider" fan.

I also liked certain periods of The "West Coast Avengers", "Black Panther", and certain "X-Men".
For awhile, I was also into the "Silver Surfer".

I liked the unusual ones, in any given group.
Examples- In the following groups, I will list my particular favorites:

-West Coast Avengers: Hawkeye, Moon Knight
-X-Men: Nightcrawler, Thunderbird
-Defenders: Silver Surfer, Gargoyle
-Justice League Of Amnerica (JLA)- Red Tornado, Hawkman, Dr. Mid-Nite

I also had my favorite villains.

It was a tough road, to be sure, but it gave me a feeling of independence.
However, I didn't have any Medical insurance, and so if I got sick, I just had to tough it out.

Now, though, I'm glad I have it.
I can only imagine what would've happened to me if it wasn't here.

Plus, it gives me incentive to find a way to get back off, again.

Ooooooh, that's a toughie!

There are so many out there, that are good!

I used to play "Swords Of Fury" every chance I got, when I lived in Utah-
"Black Knight 2000" was a favorite in Reno, as was "PinBot"....
This place I would frequent in Sparks had "Hercules", the LARGEST pinball game ever (the pinball was a silver-painted billiard ball).....

I'd have to say, it's a 5-way tie between the following:

-Black Knight 2000
-Doctor Who (yes, there is one)
-Gold Ball (that's an older one)
-Indiana Jones
-The Addams Family

I'd love to see if there's a "Mythos/Cthulhu" one out there.

How did you and your wife meet?

This was the first question asked, in this thread.

Melissa and I have been together for 9 years, now; we've been married for 5 years, come May 25th.

Never thought about that one, before....

I would have to say...probably a fine dining establishment.
Something along the lines of "Rusterman's" in the "Nero Wolfe" book series.
3-4 Star dining; specialities in 4 Ethnic areas: Mediterranean, Creole, Moroccan, and Mongolian.
Special areas for the smokers (yes- I would be a "rebel", in that aspect).

The place would be called either "The Paragon", or "The Silk Road", in honor of World Cuisine- much like Marco Polo's route, for trading.

Actually, that's just a myth.  Rice does not harm birds.  As a matter of fact, many migrating ducks and geese depend on flooded rice fields to fatten up.  Rice poses more of a danger to the guests since it's very easy for someone to slip on it.

Juliette Gordon Low (the founder of Girl Scouts) lost her hearing due to rice thrown at her wedding.

"Before her marriage, Juliette had suffered from chronic ear infections. She had lost most of her hearing in one ear because of improper treatment. At her wedding, when she was 26, she lost hearing in her other ear after a grain of good-luck rice thrown at the event lodged in her ear, puncturing the eardrum and resulting in an infection and total loss of hearing in that ear."

Just my random trivia fact for today.

No, the "Coochi Coochi Girl" has declared herself as "all natural".
She comes from a culture where plastic surgery is somewhat frowned upon.

Do you have any pets or have ever had any?

How's the band coming along?

Current pets: Sahara & Petra; both cats.
Sahara: Big fat sand-colored cat, with some minor striping and long haired.
Petra: Miniature blue/cream tortoise shell cat. Short haired.

Past pets: Isis- Siamese seal-point cat, deceased at the age of 15.
Odin- Gray kitten; had one blue eye & one green eye. Fell from 3rd floor balcony, 1996.
Lobo- Feral cat I adopted in 1995; shredded by local Shepherd/Wolf hybrid.
Banjo- Buff-colored AKC registered cocker spaniel. Sold in 1988 or 1989.
Unnamed colony of Sea-Monkeys (Yes, they're REAL creatures); spilled & killed in 1998.
Montgomery- Goldfish; died in 1987.
Kitty Woo- Russian blue-point kitten, missing- presumed dead, 1981.
Gobbo- Chameleon with curled scaled tail; eaten by Kitty Woo in 1981.

As for the band- there have been a few bumps in the road.
Our keyboardist suffered a minor breakdown, and we didn't really practice for about 4 wks.
However, the rest of us were there for him, as we were for our guitarist losing both parents in 2 months.
Further, our Conga player moved to Miami, earlier this month.
We are attempting to recruit another player.
We have returned to practice, and have added about 5 new songs into our roster.
I am attempting to get a full-fledged website ready for us, in lieu of a webpage.

-We are adding 3 Stevie Wonder songs (one is in Calypso style), and trying to add a Peter Frampton piece. We have also added a couple new Mana songs, and are working on improving our Salsa selections.

Swimming helps a lot.
So do fans at high speed.

I'm trying to stay away from A/C at this point, as it jacks up my PG&E bill.
However, my mother, who has been staying with us, insists on it, because she is on a med that makes her perpetually hot.

That's more for quenching thirst, than for dealing with heat.

If you want to keep yourself hydrated, then I suggest something with electrolytes, especially if you have a more active lifestyle.

Places include: Jamaica, Ireland/Scotland, Easter Island, Teotihuacan (South America), and Turkey.

The universe- well, who wouldn't love to surf the sub-ethos?

Either Japan or the Phillipines.

I'm afraid I can't name a specific locale, since there are just so many good ones to choose from!

Features will include:

-A fully-equipped recording studio, in the basement.
-A fully-furnished library/study/office, something out of a Nero Wolfe novel, I should think.
-An elevator, as I will most likely be in the wheelchair, by that time.
-Jacuzzi tubs (you have to admit, those things are good all the way around!)
-4 bdrms., 2 bthrms., 3 stories, a wraparound porch, wheelchair ramps, and built "disabled friendly".
-Darker wood panelling, and the studio will have lt. gray carpet (my favorite color)

If you could build your own dream girl,What would it look like? ;D

Now, honestly. Why in the world would I construct my dream girl?
I am neither Dr. von Frankenstein, nor am I a character in "Weird Science".

-Besides, my wife has the personality I love, and (yes, I have to be honest) if Joan Jett had Melissa's ass, there'd be my dream, wrapped up all in one.
(Melissa understands this- her dream guy used to be Meat Loaf.)

If you could be any character in a movie or book what character and what movie/book would it be?

Excellent question.

The problem here, is again, so much to choose from!

That being said, I have thought about "what would I do if I were..." with the following characters:

Books:
Nine Princes In Amber- Corwin
Chaucer's Canterbury Tales- The Summoner
Sword Of Clontarf- Niall Arneson, Errard macCoise
Crown Jewels/House Of Shards- Drake Maijstral, Roman
Seven Keys To Baldpate- Kenneth McGee

Films:
Hawk, the Slayer- Hawk, Voltan, Baldin the Dawrf
Bloodsport- Frank Dux
Monty Python's Search For the Holy Grail- Any minor Knight of the Round Table, whose head got bitten off by the Rabbit
Excalibur- Arthur, Merlin, Percival
Caddyshack- Danny Noonan, Ty Webb, Carl Spackler
Ghostbusters- Egon Spengler, one of the turned-down applicants

The answer would be relative, for each person.

For me, I have 3 songs that were tough:

-Aerosmith's "Dream On"
-Queen's "Who Wants To Live Forever"
-The Scorpions' "Rock You Like A Hurricane"

What made you want to start a karaoke business?

It started roughly 7 yrs. ago, when this fellow I knew had a bar, here in town.
I had been a karaoke "regular" for years, and his KJ had just been fired/run out.
He asked me if I wanted to learn how to do it, and I said OK.

At some point, his place got shut down, as one of his bartenders got busted serving to a minor.

I was approached by another "regular" who happened to own some professional equipment, and we agreed that she'd supply the equipment if I supplied the discs. (I had about 750 songs at the time)

It helps me keep my voice in shape, and gets me out of the house.

I will answer these in turn:

-Smoke gray
-Many things. PM me, if you really want me to list them.
-Mardi Gras. Christmas is a close 2nd, followed by Halloween.
-Until 7th Grade, I was a straight-A student. 7th & 8th Grade, I burned out. High School years: I did OK in my Freshman yr., bombed in my Sophomore & Junior yrs., and rallied nobly in my Senior yr. Graduated on time, with extra credits.
-I do some random portraits, in my spare time. I have also created poetry. As for the Fine Arts, I'm afraid that my brother is more qualified for that. (When he isn't a drug fiend.)
-Yes, I have. I learned a very valuable lesson: Never stand behind a cow with the runs.

I cut my teeth on D&D, when it first broke away from being "Chainmail".
I found initially that in games of the hack'n'slash nature, I preferred Thieves.
Clerics also played a minor part....that was before I discovered such classes as Barbarians, Assassins & such.

(I also find that I like Demi-Races. Half-Trolls are a particular favorite of mine.)

As to actual favorites, it depends on the game, really.

I have matched up Classes, according to the appropriate games:

-D&D: Thieves, Barbarians & Bards
-Rifts: Crazy, Techno-Wizard, Ley Line Walkers, Sham-Men & Mystics.
-Call Of Cthulhu: Private Investigators, Performers, & Bounty Hunters
-Travellers: Anything in Engineering
-Super-Hero Type: I prefer the "anti-hero" role. Kinda like The Shroud.
-Time Lord/Dr. Who: I have no preference...I have played 'em all. And liked it!
-Bard's Tale: Rogue, Bard, Monk, Knight & Magic User

Hope this answers your question.

I've only played game console RPGs... Most of the Dragon Quest/Warrior, some Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star. I have read alittle on D&D, but not alot.(although I do get some of what your talking about)

Not all of those games I mentioned let you pick classes or change them.

In Dragon Warrior/Quest 3, although your character is supposed to the hero of the game, I now name them something else and make myself a character that I will change into a Sage(A Sage learns all spells minus what the main character learns... They're also fairly strong when compared to Mages(Offensive spell caster, of course) and Clerics(aka Priest, token healing class).

In Final Fantasy games that allow you to pick or change classes, I'm more partial to Red Mages(mixed Mages with solid fighting ability) and Ninjas.

How's Carrie-Okey doing?  ;D

Quite well. I now have over 11,000 songs, and have my Playbook in order.
Add the fact that I have a printer that does double-sided copies, and I am now totally self-sufficient,
and you'd agree I'm doing well.
In fact, I have had a lot of new clients in the last 2 months, and there's a chance that I will have a new place lined up within the month.
