Subject: All of March is spring
Written By: Brendan McClelland on 10/25/06 at 3:14 pm
Anyone agree that all of March is spring? According to Wikipedia meterologists consider the whole months of March, April, and May spring. So in that case all of March is spring.

For me, seasons aren't based on the equinox or solstice.. it's the temperature... and March is never, EVER Spring weather.

Simple answer: Meterological seasons start at the start of the month, astronomical seasons start around the 20th (solstice/equinox)
My answer: Seasons start whenever they feel like. I feel that the meterological seasons are a month out and should all start a month later than they do now, as this makes more sense, temperature and weather-wise.

March isn't spring. March is still late winter.

March is a winter month here, there's no leaves or grass growing yet, and it still snows frequently, though December is also basically a winter month here too. September is still pretty warm, so at least half of it is still summer to me.

I don't think so.

There's winter. There's road repair season. And March is indeed late winter.
But what is this "spring" of which you speak? Your three-season world confuses me enough, but not nearly as much as these people who speak of four seasons.

Down here in Georgia, we really don't have 4 seasons, climately-speaking. It can be hot from about June to September and cold from October to May. It's just varying degrees of hotness and coldness.

Hmm in the U.K march can be either. We can be up to our eyeballs in snow and icy cold gales, or it can be warm, with blue skies and blossom on the trees, lambs in the fields etc.
We definatly have four seasons over here which I'm glad for Spring is my favourite time of the year.

Not technically, but climatewise I think that's sorta correct. Usually the "Winter cold" cold is done by late Febuary, maybe early March at most. For instance, it usually doesn't rain too much by March.
In terms of weather, I guess the seasons are sort of like this:
Winter: November 20th-Febuary 28th (especially starting after Thanksgiving)
Spring: March 1-early June
Summer: mid June-Labor Day (I always viewed school vacation as true Summer ;D )
Fall: early September- mid November

This really depends on where you live. My hometown of Chicago has more delineation when it comes to the seasons.....you know where each one, for the most part, begins and ends. Down here in Georgia, where it's more mild/temperate 8-9 months of the year, spring and fall are harder to pick out climately. You know on the calendar when it is, but temperature-wise, it's a crapshoot. It's snowed in April down here, it's been 90 degrees in October down here. The only 2 seasons that are easy to "feel" are summer and winter. It gets rather chilly down here, especially up in the North Georgia mountains and we all know how hot it gets in the South in the summer.

Sounds about right (just change the months though). I suppose the true "feel" of each season, for where I live is as follows: (Mainly just something I pulled out of nowhere, but here goes...)
True Summer: Late Nov. to Mid Feb.
Summer-Autumn Cusp: Mid Feb. to Late March
True Autumn: Late March to Mid May
Autumn/Winter Cusp: Mid May to Late June
True Winter: Late June to Early August
Winter/Spring Cusp: Early August to Early October
True Spring: Early October to Late Nov.
...whatever, something like that. Just made that list up on the spot. ;D

It's what he feels the seasons are, based on the temperature. He's in the southern hemisphere so all the seasons are reversed from what they are up here.

So that means we're in The Northern Hemisphere?

Yes. Anything above the Equator is the Northern Hemisphere, anything below it the Southern.

In the Northern Hemisphere. In places like Australia and New Zealand, it's the beginning of Fall. That's why the Summer Olympics in Sydney back in 2000 had to start in September.....that's the beginning of their warmer seasons.
