The only thing, I think, I know about Oregon is the Oregon Trail.  Are there ghost towns and wrecks of
wagon trains out in remote spots?

Not sure.  Probably in Eastern Oregon, maybe around Portland there's some old wagons.

In the cold half of the year, in the western 35% of the state.  Eastern Oregon is largely semi-arid.

Tell me about the various suburbs of Portland, and the position of minority groups in Portland. And Portland's local economy.

In the 90s at worst.  Typically, around 60-80 degrees.  Better than Arizona  ;)

Sorry man, I don't know Portland.  ;)  I'll tell you the little I do know though:

Portland itself has a bit over half a million people. It's no Seattle, but the downtown is pretty expansive.  The biggest suburb, I believe is Gresham, which is like 100,000-something people.  Beaverton is around 50,000 or something like that.

Oregon is very white, but Portland has a good deal of blacks, which is unusual for Oregon.  Based on when I've been there, it seems to rain there more than it does around Eugene, Salem and Corvallis.  Not sure about the economy of Portland, sorry.  :(  It is a center for indie rock.

What are the winters like?

Very rainy, in the western part of the state.  East of the Cascades, sort of snowy.

I live between Salem and Eugene. It's nice, it's in the country though, so it's a bit lonely.

Is Oregon really nothing but trees?

Major stereotype.  Even counting areas that have been logged, only about 40% of the state is forested.  The rest is agricultural, semi-arid, or desert, for the most part.  California contains more forests than Oregon, although Oregon has a higher percentage of forest than California.

Maybe once.  I thought I heard something once in the woods that sounded like a bear (this was in Washington state)

Not sure about the length of the growing season, for the pot you'd have to ask Rasheed Wallace ;)

I deleted the new one, and restored this one ;)

Anyway, though, it snows maybe once a year, twice if we're lucky, zero times if we're not.  That's still more than most parts of Austrailia ;)

Yes, I'm quite jealous of that fact. I know Oregon has alot of mountains. Do you going up there to ski alot? Do you have like a lodge up there?

Actually, most of Oregon's geographical area gets snow in the winter.  I've only skiied 4 times before, twice in '01, once in '02 or '03, and once again at the end of '05.  I don't have a lodge; wish I did!  But I have stayed in a house out in the woods before.

Oregon, at least western Oregon is very mountainous. I, along with most Oregonians live in a valley, the Willamette Valley to be specific, but I'd say nearly half of Oregon is mountainous areas.  However, they're mostly low mountains; most mountains in Oregon are less than a mile high.  There are a few exceptions though, most notably the High Cascades such as Mt. Hood and the Three Sisters.

Not all of it.

We actually live on a five-acre plot that's a melon farm, however it used to be part of a bigger farm which was founded in the 1840s.  Our house is the brown box in the middle of the bottom of the picture.

Is this what your neighborhood looks like, kind of?

Here's my neighbourhood. In other words, boring, middle-class suburbia...But I've lived here most all my life, so I've grown to like it.

My house is near the school near the centre east of the picture. I know it's a bit small to see.

Winthrop used to be a pine-plantation until 1979 when it was sub-divided and made into a suburbs. Most of the first lots were released about 1985, and we moved here about 1987-88. The surrounding suburbs are a mix between old and new; Willagee, to the west, was built in the 1950s, while other suburbs were largely built in the 1970s.
