Microsoft and Sony won't refresh their console lines until 2014
I hope Microsoft and Sony never refresh their console lines. I ain't sinking money into more consoles. PS3 and 360 do me fine.
I just hope the Wii 2 will still support original Wii games as well as Game Gube games. You never know though. Nintendo usually likes to bring out surprises.

I heard Sony and Microsoft are Refreshing their console lines in 2014, giving the Wii 2 or whatever time to bathe in the spotlight. As far as I know, the Wii 2 is still using disks as a method of play, so it should be able to support Gamecube and the original Wii.

According to this article Jason you don't have to worry. Microsoft consider the Xbox360 to be a long-term project, especially since Kinnect (originally called Project Natal) has been released.

There are rumours that the next generation consoles could be in the stores in four years time. I agree with the Guardian article, Xbox360 still has some mileage left. At the moment, the emphasis seems to be on creating different game engines to take games to the next level. Once this phase has hit a wall then I reckon Microsoft will consider the next generation.

If games get any more advanced, it would be like controlling a movie with real actors, which suck. the way it is now, you still can tell there's a video game feel to it.

I think they did that for some of the old consoles like 3DO and Mega CD and it didn't work for me. Consoles will have a long way to go before they get that far, I very much doubt the next generation of consoles will hit that level.
What software companies have got to be careful of is that they don't make their computer games too easy (which I suppose that is what the achievement list is taking care of, though repeating a game three times or more isn't difficult, just a hard slog). There are so many times in games where you press a button, get a cutscene, press another and get another cutscene - give me the game! ;D

I had the game Yazuka 4 for PS3, and it was almost nothing but cut scenes, many of which you could notskip. I like the idea of a story in a game, but I don't want a game where there is more story than actual gameplay.
Though, the gameplay that was there in Yakuza 4 was OK, but kind of repetitive

That's right. Role-play games tend to be the worst offenders. Two in particular are the games Star Ocean and Lost Odyssey, both 'boasting' 3 discs each. However, the 3 discs are there purely because the games are chock-full with cut-scenes. The last part of the first disc on Star Ocean features a half hour cut-scene from start to finish! The discs aren't evenly split either so you will find most of the game is covered on the first disc and bits and pieces are covered on the other two.
So the moral of the story is, do not judge a game by the amount of discs it has. By all accounts the new game Elder Scrolls: Skyrim will only need 1 disc. :o
