it's not the server, I just checked it.  It's the network feeding the server. 

This is the hosting company, http://www.fastservers.net/ and that site is super slow at the moment.  They might be under attack or something, I'm sure it will clear up in a little while.

I finally got to the hosting company's messageboard and saw this:

A rogue backhoe (aren't they all) severed a major fiber bundle very near the property of the TEAMNET datacenter facility that we so desperately rely upon.

it's the third time in four months this hosting facility has gotten hit like this.  I had three datacenters with the company I could have picked, and it looks like I picked wrong...  I'm guessing the people who dig holes in Iowa don't call dig safe before they start to dig.

I was pretty certain that Dig Safe was national... but maybe it's like those commercials that used to air, where they'd say "Valid in 49 states, sorry Iowa"

either way, I got the impression from what they described, that they were in the process of turning on a new line with someone else to help insure this wouldn't happen anymore.  Turns out it was supposed to be last night, and the company didn't turn it on.  So perfect timing of bad events causes a perfect slow down.

yup, back to blazing speeds on my end, and that's saying something since I'm at work where the download speeds are usually painful

though nowhere near as painful as the IE 7 issue I just spent two hours tracking down.. ugh.

BTW, is seems to be quicker than before.

I have Verizon dsl and it was out from yesterday afternoon until a few minutes ago.

check the "page created" times, which should be at the very bottom of every page.  If that's really long, it's the server.  I haven't seen any slow downs myself today, so it might be you ISP.

Everything went slow a one point yesterday, but I think it was me more than you.

Mine is not too slow, but I have no e-mail notifications at all...that's unusual.

Same here, a few hours back. The firefox ticker bar would go half way .... but never complete. Gave up for maybe half an hour or so ?

It is all fine at the moment.

a quick test to see if it's the server or your connection is to look at the bottom for something like "Page created in 0.097 seconds with 16 queries."

if the server is under a large load, or your trying to do something complicated (like look at the stats of someone with two zillion posts), the time will be a second or more.

Since the messageboard does share a server with all the rest of my sites, it's possible if a link to something gets posted on a busy site like fark/reddit/digg/drudge (yuk)  than things might run slow.

I wonder if that's because there's so many posts on this site now, it would take too long to search all of them for a certain word or phrase, and hence choke up the server (or something of that nature). :-\\



By the way, I noticed the board was slow again a few days ago, as pointed out on another thread. The "High stress server" message was coming up. All is fine now, btw.

I waited and watched for my pages to load, some taking 16+ seconds and others taking up to 27 seconds.
I checked the server status - nothing wrong there at all.
So I clicked more pages, took as long to load...

Noticed though that since I am using Google Chrome - it tells me in the bottom right corner what it is waiting on for the page to load....

It has told me every single time almost that it is waiting on Big Boards.com and/or photobucket for the image for big boards.
The image for big boards has yet to load properly for me today.

yes.  Firefox and IE won't usually time out the rest of the page when a single image isn't loaded.  I also make sure the big-boards thing is last and outside of most of the markup so it won't cause a delay if that site isn't loading properly.

I tried in all browsers available and nothing. Karen had the same issue.
I started tracking time after I finally received the message.

4:09pm - 5:37pm EST.
Obviously I just got in.

I couldn't load the board either.  I tried about 5 times. :(

Mostly I got the warning that I might not be connected to the internet but once I got the message about there being a problem with the site.  A microsoft diagnostic said that the host might be down
