Subject: This was weird...
I have the "always logged on" button checked. I use Internet Explorer because everything scrolls off the page in Netscape. I was trying to access a poster's link, and was having trouble, so I completely closed I.E and brought up Netscape and went to the site. The site did not recognize me at Netscape and had me as "welcome guest, please register or log in." Out of curiousity I went to see who was looged on, and my name was still shown as being logged on, even tho' I had closed and exited I.E. How did that happen? ???

I don't have the "always logged in" button checked, but I have had a similar experience. Several times I have been logged in and left the site for one reason or another - or just been inactive for a while - and when I would go back to try to post I would get the "guest" screen. When I refreshed the front page I was still shown as logged in, but I would still have to log in again to post under my screen name.

If "Always Logged In" is tracked by cookies, then Netscape won't know about your IE settings.

Well then I am in very good company with Netscape, 'cus I don't know anything about my IE settings either! :-/

I get that problem ALL the time (well nearly all).
I find that if I am in the 70's for example, and then visit a thread, and then post in that thread, if I go back to 'the 70's', then I find the time under my name is invariably the original time when I went into 'the 70's' in the first place.
I have to constantly 'F5' to get the screen to where it should be.
If someone can provide advice to me on how to overcome this, please do.......
Because it is driving me insane........

the site uses a cookie to keep track of who you are, and netscape and IE maintain seperate cookies. I think the logged in feature also counts someone as actively visiting the site for like five minutes after their first hit.. the web is a stateless medium, which means you're not really connected to the site when you're entering messages or reading them. You only connect to retrive a little bit at a time, so it figures you're looking at the site for a couple of minutes at a time.. if you don't keep hitting the site, it expires and assumes you went elsewhere..
if you close the browser, and then reopen it, and you don't have the "always connected" option checked, you'll need to relogin as well.. since that cookie is temporary

your using your back button instead of the navigation elements on the site.. when you hit the back button, the pages won't get fetched from the site, they get fetched from the local cache on your hard drive.. you can change your internet explorer settings to never cache, but I don't suggest it.. I suggest just clicking on "The Discussion Areas" at the top of every page, which should get a fresh page
