Subject: Facebook... should I be making plugins for amIright?

Written By: ChuckyG on 11/15/07 at 12:54 pm

I've been fortunate enough to avoid even looking at a single Facebook profile so far... I did hear that there are now integration tools for websites to interface with Facebook... I'm guessing so you can copy some piece of a website into your profile or something.

Are there any Facebook users here that could maybe give me some ideas as to what info from amIright might look cool in their profiles?

All I really know about facebook is that you can post links of your website in the profile section.

Thats really all.

As you know, Chucky, I'm active in community theater in our mutual neighborhood of eastern Massachusetts.  There is a HUGE and ever-increasing theater community on Facebook -- my own Facebook account is approaching 100 friends, and the vast majority of them are theater-related.  Remember how 2 years ago, I got a gig providing song parodies to a theater group in Westford, the Nashoba Players (they "commissioned" me) ?  I think that if you created an amIright plugin application for Facebook, you would drive more traffic to amIright & you might stimulate interest in song parodies among members of the theater community.

I think song parodies and misheard lyrics, the 2 backbones of amIright, would look cool in Facebook profiles.  Exactly what to display and how best to display it is the question.  Speaking for myself, if I could have an amIright Facebook profile display that showcased a number of my favorite song parodies (up to some maximum number), as well as some of my favorite misheard lyrics, I think such a display would attract attention to amIright, for sure!  Perhaps a window that would show the title of the parody, perhaps giving a link to its amIright page, and/or a window that actually displayed the text of the parody itself in scrollable format.

Driving more traffic to the site is the reason I'm thinking of doing something for sure.

hmmm... maybe that's the key right there, something that lets people pick their favorite misheard lyrics to be displayed on their profile.  I tried making something for people to share stuff with quizzes on amIwrong for MySpace, but they're soooo backwards on letting anything get displayed on a page now, that I eventually gave up on the thought of trying to do more.  I've been hearing about the Facebook API being opened up, so I hold a little more hope for developing something useful for that.

Guess I'll have to sign up for an account and start reading up on it.

It could drive more traffic to the site, but as johnny D said the networking possibilities could be endless.  There are some parody-themed facebook groups started by members here but with someone that knows what they're doing marketing-wise a lot more could probably be done.

A favorites list in the profile could be a good idea, and maybe you could do something with a random parody generator.
