September 24th 1841 – The Sultan of Brunei cedes Sarawak to the United Kingdom.

January 13th 1842 – Dr. William Brydon, an assistant surgeon in the British East India Company Army during the First Anglo-Afghan War, becomes famous for being the sole survivor of an army of 4,500 men and 12,000 camp followers when he reaches the safety of a garrison in Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

March 17th 1842 – The Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is formed;

August 9th 1842 – The Webster–Ashburton Treaty is signed, establishing the United States–Canada border east of the Rocky Mountains.

August 14th 1842 – American Indian Wars: Second Seminole War ends, with the Seminoles forced from Florida to Oklahoma.

August 16th 1842 - In New York City, the U.S. government took over operations of the City Despatch Post. This was the first congressionally authorized local postage delivery.

September 13th 1842 - In the USA, Chris Lilly and Tom McCoy bare-fist fight for 119 rounds, when McCoy falls dead in the ring, after 2 hours 43 minutes. During the fight he had received 100 square blows, and was knocked down 81 times.

November 13th 1843 - Mount Rainier in Washington State erupts.

December 4th 1843 - Manilla paper (made from sails, canvas and rope) is patented, in Massachusetts, USA.

July 3rd 1844 - Ambassador Caleb Cushing successfully negotiated a commercial treaty with China that opened five Chinese ports to U.S. merchants and protected the rights of American citizens in China.

July 3rd 1844 – The last pair of great auks is killed.

August 29th 1844 - First white vs Indian lacrosse game in Montreal, Indians win.

March 3rd 1845 - An Act of Congress established uniform postal rates throughout the nation. The act went into effect on July 1, 1845.

March 3rd 1845 – Florida is admitted as the 27th U.S. state.

March 11th 1845 – Flagstaff War: Unhappy with translational differences regarding the Treaty of Waitangi, chiefs Hone Heke, Kawiti and Māori tribe members chop down the British flagpole for a fourth time and drive settlers out of Kororareka, New Zealand.

April 10th 1845 - More than 1,000 buildings are damaged by fire in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.

July 1st 1845 - Uniform postal rates went into effect throughout the United States. The Act of Congress was passed on March 3, 1845.

December 11, 1845: First Anglo-Sikh War: Sikh army crosses the Sutlej in the Punjab.

January 23rd 1846: Slavery in Tunisia is abolished.

February 19th 1846: In Austin, Texas the newly formed Texas state government is officially installed. The Republic of Texas government officially transfers power to the State of Texas government following the annexation of Texas by the United States.
