Written By: ninny on 11/25/08 at 7:54 am
I've always liked Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass does anyone else.
The Lonely Bull
A Taste Of Honey
Whipped Cream are my favorites.
Also I think my favorite decade for instrumentals is the 1960's,they had so many great songs
Green Onions-Booker T & The MG's
Theme From A Summer Place-Percy Faith
The Stripper- David Rose
Theme From The Exodus-Ferrante & Teicher
Wonderland By Night- Bert Kaempfert
Telstar- Tornados
Wipeout-The Sufaris
Classical Gas- Mason Williams
Love Is Blue-Paul Mauriat
Theme From Hawaii Five O -Ventures
Pipeline-Chantays
Grazing In The Grass -Hugh Maskela
Walk In The Black Forest -Horst Jankowski
Heck even the theme from Batman was cool.
I almost forgot the theme from The Good The Bad & The Ugly-Hugo Montengro

I like The Lonely Bull, A Taste of Honey an This Guy's In Love With You.
I also really like 60's instrumental music, it may even require its own separate thread. ;)

I love surf instrumental rock.
Dick Dale was the Eddie Van Halen of the early 1960's, but he never quite broke out nationally.

Over the years, Herb's probably become more well-known as the hugely successful record company executive (he was the 'A' in 'A&M') than the entertaining trumpet player...
There's only a handful of his stuff I don't care for (the 80s dance stuff was a bit of a mistake!)
And given his limited vocal range, 'This Guy...' should never have worked...but somehow it did! Wonderfully! :)

Love them all, brings back memories of the childhood in the 60s for me, especially Casino Royale.

How did I forget Dick Dale and Misirlou.
Another fav who was in the 50's and 60's is Duane Edddy

The only song from the 80's I know is Rise

...which was more late 70s than anything else, but a colossus compared to the late-80s stuff ('Diamonds', 'Keep Your Eye On Me', that sort of thing) which, if you've not heard them, then you're not really missing much! Typical late-80s dance pap, to be honest!

Technically they do. Herb re-issued that on CD in 2006 in a new version with an updated album sleeve ...

My mother listened to Herb all of my life, she had all of his records and I just had to buy her another stereo with turntable so she could still listen to her vinyl.
I actually never appreciated them till now when I do not here them everyday, and I think how beautiful they sound. I have even started collecting them on my iPod
She also had albums of :
Ferrante and Teicher
Baja Marimba Band
Boston Pops (1960's band leader)
Chet Atkins -I always thought he was an odd mix in the group - but she had several of his albums, and played them regularly
and I am sure so many more that I can not even remember.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane ;D

Her name is Dolores Erickson, a model, she's in a white sheet with shaving cream splatered over it, whipped cream would have melted under the lights, but the whipped cream was used on her head.

Did you know that A in A&M Records stands for Alpert?
In 1962, Herb Alpert and American record exec Jerry Moss founded A&M Records, a label that has been responsible for some of the most successful albums of all time ...
The Police - Synchronicity (1983)
Bryan Adams - Reckless (1984)

Someone in my family had this album (don't know if it was my parents or my brother). I remember spending HOURS (or so it seemed) just looking at that cover.
