Subject: Pre-1930's movies
Written By: spaceace on 03/01/07 at 2:44 pm
I'm looking for some really good early Hollywood movies to watch. Movies with Rudolf Valentino, Mary Pickford, Lon Chaney. You catch my drift. Any suggestions? Thanks . . . Spaceace. :)

Modern Times (Charlie Chaplin)
The General (Buster Keaton)
Orphans of the Storm (G.W. Griffith)
Birth of a Nation (G.W. Griffith)-racist as hell but it is a classic
I'm sure I will think of more later.

For pre-1930s I've seen more than a few, and of those these are the ones I can think of off hand that I think are the best
The Gold Rush (1925) (Charlie Chaplin)
Safety Last! (1923) (Harold Lloyd)
Sherlock, Jr. (1924) (Buster Keaton)
Big Business (1929) (Laurel & Hardy)
Intolerance (1916) -- One of the oldest movies I've ever seen and liked.
The Crowd (1928)
A couple from F.W. Murnau that were good
The Last Laugh (1924)
Sunrise (1927)
These aren't Hollywood movies but they're are couple of good Russian ones
Strike (1925)
The Man with a Movie Camera (1929)
That's all I've got for now.

I gotta go with Cat and say, definitely check out "The General." The stuntwork by Buster Keaton is absolutely insane.
