Wow, Johnny Rivers. What a great voice.
I chose Memphis, Poor Side of Town, and Swayin' To The Music. That last song has some great memories for me.

Not a huge JR fan, but I do really like these three:
"Summer Rain"
"Muddy River"
"Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu"

'Mountain Of Love', 'Maybelline' and 'Poor Side Of Town'...
His total hit output in Britain totalled zero, for some reason...
Probably what didn't help was his reluctance to tour here...

My best two are 'Swayin to the music (slow dancin') and 'Mountain of Love. Have his anthology CD, I love Johnny Rivers, he has a great sound.

One of my faves from the 60s and 70s. There are too many great JR songs for me to single one out only one, but I can pare it down to a few; "Summer Rain", Mountain of Love, and "These Are not My People" are goodies.
On a related note, I once worked with a guy who said one of his musician buddies was the drummer for "Slow Dancin'". He supposedly thought Rivers was a control freak, but whatever...

I voted "Seventh Son" - "Ashes and Sand" - and "Secret Agent Man"
I cannot believe "Secret Agent Man" has only one other vote. My kids LOVE that song. Most of my old fashioned stuff they cannot stand. That, however, makes them get up and dance.

I like Secret Agent Man, but there are others I like more.

I saw Johhny Rivers perform live 2 yrs ago....
He was okay...but he didnt play ANY of his classic oldies....it was mostly stuff from some new album and some blues....
The crowd was not pleased.....

I picked,
Mountain of Love---is supposedly sad, but seems to have a happy carefree beat to my ears
Baby I Need Your Lovin'----great backup vocals
Summer Rain---love this one!

That's something, how can you not play any of the past hits that you were famous for, I would have been dissappointed too.

That is odd, because it is the opposite of what I experienced.
In 1999, I saw Johnny Rivers in a concert in Palmdale, California. Every summer they have free concerts in the park, normally olf groups from the 1960's. Peter Noone is a regular guest, as is Paul Reveere.
He performed a lot of his classics, and even went into some territory that caught me a little off-guard. Towards the end, he went into a long medley of Louis Prima works, and even went walking through the crowd with his band, still playing and singing (a'la Louis Prima).
