Written By: Philip Eno on 09/11/05 at 2:11 am

Former Beatle Ringo Starr's birthplace is to be demolished because it has "no historical significance", Liverpool City Council has said.

As the article says - he spent three months of his life there - that doesnt really make it "that" historically significant.

Not to worry - according to last night's Liverpool Echo (I'll look for a link and post it) the house is going to be taken apart brick by brick and rebuilt.

It doesn't actually say where it's going to be rebuilt though.

"regeneration project" ?
Careful with that Urban Renewal stuff over there. They use to tear down old buildings over here all the time and put up crappy modern garbage in its place (and a big ol' ugly parking lot/garage to go with it).

World War II destroyed many fine old buildings in Europe; here in the U.S. it was called Urban Renewal.
