Subject: Loved the 60's and 70's sad songs
Written By: J. Brown on 08/23/05 at 10:02 pm
Loved the old sad songs of the 60's and 70's for example:
"Strange things happen" Dickey Lee
"Cats in the craddle" Harry Chapin
"Chapel bells were ringing" The Browns
"Wildfire" Michael Martin Murphy
"Alone Again (Natually)" Gilbert O' Sullivan
"Giddy-up-go", "Phantom 309". "Teddy Bear" and "Deck of cards" Red Sovine
"Big Bad John' Johnny Horton
"Son, don't go near the indians" Rex Allen
"Honey' and "Watching Scotty Grow" Bobby Goldsboro
"One tin soldier" Johnny Reb
"The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald" Gordon Lightfoot
"Mr. Bojangles" Sammy Davies Jr.
"Seasons in the sun" Cat Stevens
Can you all remind me of some others I may have forgotten???
See you all in my memories :)

Greenjello,
As you may know, Second Avenue was written by Tim Moore. I prefer Garfunkel's version.

Yes I too prefer Garfunkel's version, I want it for my ipod where ever did you find it ? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Another really sad song is Justin Haywards One Lonely Room from his songwriter album.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcqvXaQPryg This is a more recent performance of this song, it was originally released in 1977.
I Have to say you have great taste in music.
Don't say you don't remember is another one of my alltime favs.

The last Kiss J Frank Wilson And The Cavaliers
A 60s tune that hit again in northern California in 1973.
In our music class we had to perform solo or as a small group before the school and at parent's night.
Two other guys and I opted for The Last Kiss.... a teen male driver who wrecks his car and his girlfriend dies beside him.
Just our luck. We had practiced for a month and the concert was 2 weeks awasy when a dude in our school wrecked his car and it killed his girlfriend who was inside the car with him, who happened to be one of the really "popular girls" in the school. A cheerleader and all that other stuff.
We were going to change the song but were talked into doing it.
Sheesh.
For the student assembly the girls were going nuts, crying, boo hooing, some running out of the performance hall, etc.
Then the parent's night. Damn, same thing except the girl's parents were present along with a bunch of relatives and it was tear citiy all over again.
Weirdness to the extreme though us three performers were minor "heroes" of a sort and I must admit we did a pretty damn good job performing the song.

Anything by the Moody Blues. I'm not sure of the year of this next one, but it was pre-disco Beegees, can't remember the name, but they sounded almost like Simon and Garfunkel in it. It was a very sad song.
Have to look at my song list before I come over here.. :)

Sounds a bit like 'New York Mining Disaster 1941', their first worldwide hit...
Even though they'd had hits in Australia and elsewhere before then (1967), they were complete unknowns in Britain and the US...so much so, that it was rumoured that the song was by The Beatles under an assumed name - B.G. allegedly meaning 'Beatle Group' (!)

I am lead to believe the Bee Gees covered the Beatles songs in Australia on their way to stardom.
