Subject: Does anyone remember Tiny Tim?
Written By: star500 on 08/08/05 at 7:16 pm
I was looking up singers on the computer and I came across this really bizarre singer named Tiny Tim. My mom was with me and she groaned when she saw his name. Naturally, I was curious as to why she would groan. So she told me to download his song "Tiptoe Through the Tulips With Me". I did and it was by far the most funniest thing I have ever heard in my life ;D. The guy just CANNOT sing for the life of him. Also he was butt ugly ;D. My mom told me that when my grandmother saw him, she was speechless and that rarely happens.
And then my mom told he married a 17-year-old girl named Miss Vicky on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and they both tiptoed through the tulips that were on stage and sang the song, hahahaha :). I wonder if anyone remembers this?
In case you don't remember him, I've included a picture of him.

How could anyone forget Tiny Tim? He is one of those people that burn themselves on your brain, no matter how hard you try to remove them.

I didn't see the wedding on the Tonight Show but (if I remember correctly) it was one of the most watch show at the time.
Tiny Tim (who just died a few years back) was most definately bizarre to put it mildly. He was one of the few novelty acts that came into the mainstream.

I've seen him making regular appearances on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In," which can be seen on the TRIO channel.

Before the '80s, getting your 15 minutes of fame wasn't easy. Tiny Tim had his for four years or so and was then forgotten. It's a shame things don't work that way today.

I'm listening to a James Taylor song called On the 4th of july and some of the lyrics are, "with the Tiny Tim voice of radio band singing love must stand..."
Also, there's a Sponge Bob Squarepants episode where he sings a Tiny Tim song called Having a wonderful day, it's literally about the gayest thing you'll ever see and hear ;D ÂÂ

As I remember his act, he was trying to sound like the early recordings he listened to at his grandparents,as a child, I think that was the story he gave. He sure sounded like a very bad early recording. I know the marrage didn't last, and seem to remember that Miss Vicky was living in Pa.

Shouldn't that be "Ms" Vicky now? Or is it "Mrs." Vicky. ;) :D ;D

Not sure whether he was a frequent visitor to these shores, although he did appear on several chat shows...
I think he was too off-the-wall...even for us!
His sole contribution to British chart history was 'Great Balls Of Fire' which has to be heard to be believed!

I think the only song of his that hit the U.S. charts was "Tiptoe Through The Tulips With Me", which he performed on "Laugh-In" a few times.

Almost as painful as William Shatner singing doing Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds?

"Tip toe through the tulips with me." In a high falsetto while strumming the ukelele. I still remember his first appearance on "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-in." I could not believe . . . Never mind, what I could not believe.

Here's the Tiny Tim song that Sponge Bob lip sinked ;D Must be like a 30's type song or so??
Things that bother you never bother me,
I'm as happy as pie, a-ha!
Living in the sunlight, loving in the moonlight,
Having a wonderful time.
Haven't got a lot, I don't need a lot,
Coffee's only a dime,
Living in the sunlight, loving in the moonlight,
Having a wonderful time.
Just take it from me, I'm just as free as any brother,
I do what I like, just when I like, and how I love it!
I'm right here to stay, when I'm old and gray,
I'll be right in my prime,
Living in the sunlight, loving in the moonlight,
Having a wonderful time.

Contrary to popular belief, "Tiptoe" was the only song he regularly performed in a Falsetto. His real voice is actually a very rich baritone. I used to have a few of his albums. In fact, he did one song (I forget the title) in which he sang 3 different parts. And he has also done "one man duets" several times. A very gifted singer.
I have never heard it, Cat, but I know I've got to listen to it now. ;D
Here you go, this is a group of movie makers who made a "Music Video" of Mr. SHatners unforgettable performance.

It is kinda like Terry Gilliam meeting Peter Max while they were both on an acid trip. I actually used to use this as a demo on computers I sold. Believe it or not, most people loved it. ::)
