You don't know how much I miss my 1960 Oldsmobile... a snow white convertible with red leather interior and a black rag top. This was, and still is, the love of my life, I miss her dearly, we had so many memories together that to this day after 36 years without her she is still in my dreams and always be in my heart...
P S... My cousin Junior let me drive his brand new 1960 Corvette, yes he trusted me with his brand new fully loaded $4.000 ( not $40,000) Corvette and all of his others after that. I always like Corvettes and when I first drove his Vette on Route 22 when I was 13 going from zero to 70 mph in 5 seconds that sealed the deal, the car of my wishes was to own a Vette but who could afford $4,500 for a new Corvette when I got my license in 64'? well, I still might get one before I die but now I'd have to mortgage my house to get a used one!

Yeah, Al-B one unrestored is a lucky find at any less then 10,000. When I was driving mine you could hardly give them away. Everyone wanted 55 56 or 57. 58 was considered an ugly duck. That's why I jumped at the chance to sell at $900. Guess I was ahead of most everyone else, in that I liked how they looked. W.

Jiminy, our family car was the 1955 Chevy Nomad. I was a two tone turquoise and white beauty. It was a beautiful car and it had an interesting 16 years with our family. My father finally parted with it in 1966 to a guy who collected cars from out west cars, he found out my old man still owned one and for $2000.00 and a 1965 Valiant he parted with his all-time favorite car with a tear in his eye.
I like to post pictues of it...but don't know how to...duh!

Thanks for the picture, the 55 looked liked the the 57 but had more charm. There's a 55 Nomad on display at Epcot / DisneyWorld in their Future World Pavillion it's in a bronze color which I think wasn't a stock color for the 55's. maybe the 56 or 57's but it's still a good looking car way ahead of it's time in stying for the 1950'S, I think it was designed for the Urban dewellers who were all migrating to the Suburban developments in the 50's...a city styed station wagon not looking like an old Woody Wagon, a stylied car/truck for the country farmers during the war era years. Who knew then that a $3200.00 1955 Chevy station wagon would be worth 10 times that today...my old man should have bought 10 of them and put them in the bank!...Humm! I wonder if I buy 10...NAAA!
I WANT TO KNOW TO POST PICTURES ON THE SITE, CAN YOU HELP? THANKS, HOT WAX

I've always admired Biff's car from Back to the Future. It's a '46 Ford SuperDeluxe Convertable, or something like that. Although, I think I read somewhere that the car wasn't originally a convertable, and that the top was removed for the movie.

Well i am seriously contemplating it.. the only thing is, like i say, work is requried. It needs some work doing to the brakes and the side panels on both sides are rust riddled, it could do with new tyres as well..
Probably close to 2K's work... still.. i think i am gonna offer about 70% of what he's asking and see if i can get it.

That was the first new car I've purchased, well I should say me and my "new bride" of 5 months purchased, October 20, 1969. We put down $3000. and financed the the $1500. balance. All black, it was fast and it was beautiful...I have pictures, I'd love to post one and show you, but you owned one yourself so you know. I had to sell it after a few months because we had a baby shortly after and a super fast 2 door Grand Prix hauling around a baby with all his stuff wasn't cutting it...a Grand Prix to a station wagon...that's right! a 1972 Pontiac wagon, it served us well for 16 years and 3 kids. But I loved and miss my "Black Beauty" it was a perfectly styled car built for speed and looks, real classic.

1969 GTO with the Judge package
Boattail Corvettes (63-67)

Studebaker Avanti
Chrysler 300 letter series (1956-1962)
Pre-WWII or post 1970 both would have different entries.

I've always been a sucker for land yachts. Especially convertibles. The bigger, the better, I say. I mean really, almost any 1960's-early 1970's full-size American ragtop would do, but I think that one of the coolest manifestations of the land yacht would have to be the 1967 Pontiac Bonneville.

No car can touch the mighty Duesenberg J. 8) A more awesome car in every way never existed.
And besides, "classic" is defined by the AACA as 1927-1942, except for Lincoln Continental which goes thru 1948. ;)

Most famously, the Chrysler Town & Countrys of the '40s. They had sedan and station wagon versions. The wood was very prominent on the main bodies. They pretty much inspired the "station wagon" as we know it - which before the '90s (for sure, if not the '80s) meant you were always going to have "wood" (mostly fake) paneling on the doors, fenders, etc.
Classically, "station wagons" were exactly that, and were typically strictly wood exterior bodies, and were more for work than families. But they were earlier, from the beginning, and comprised of many Model Ts, As, etc.

Fords had convertibles of those types. They're only talking about that particular car, not the whole species, which included convertibles for sure.

Sorry to get into this so late, don't flame me !
I've heard my dad say so many things about the cars he's had/could have had if he would have been able to see into the future/had the money. He still has his '70 Torino GT Fastback 351 Cleaveland, bench seats, unusual for a GT in those days I'm told, we're in the process of restoring it. Dad said it would fly like like nothing he had ever seen for it's size. He had a '70 Formula 1 Firebird he bought new. Awesome car. At other times, dad has owned a 65 Fastback.
This list breaks my heart :
My great uncle Lew had a Impala with a 409, I'll have to ask dad what model, but the 409 was in Lew's opinion, one of the worst engines produced. He had it for 6 months before he sold it, and for thee of those months, it was in the shop. Wound up buying a 64 Galaxie with a 427 (jeez, If I could only go back and get the engines out of these cars I'd be happy)
My uncle Jim ordered (this was before he left Vietnam, you could go into the PX and order a car, and they would deliver it when you got home) a '69 Boss 429 Mustang. Black, with black interior, and the 429, on which the valve covers alone looked bigger than the engine almost) He sold it in when the gas started going through the roof. Car would bring $ 50,000 plus today.
My uncle Roger bought a '66 Shelby GT 350 in 1972 (for 400 dollars off a USED CAR lot) that only had at the time 32,000 actual miles on it. He sold it in '81. A shame.
Before HE went to Vietnam, my uncle Tim on moms side bought a '57 Ford two door, into which he stuffed a 427 Side Oiler. His sistesr BF drove the hell out of it without Tin knowing it while Tim was in Vietnam, and drove it low on oil and burned the 427 up, but not before he ruined it getting it onto the tow truck. Theres other cars thats been in the family, too many to list.
I bought a '57 Ford (it's a four-door, though) Fairlane 500 three year ago. No PS, no PB, no AC, but I love it. Parts for Y-Blocks are expensive to come by.

I mentioned under my old account, AL-B, that my favorite car of all was the 1966 Impala, but really I love all the old Impalas. Recently, on a GM fansite, I discovered that the next-generation Impala, due out in '08 or '09, is going to be RWD and the styling will borrow heavily from the '63-'64 and '67 Impalas. According to one insider, this car will "blow people away." If this is indeed true, then this is the new car I've been waiting to buy since I was a kid.

Dodge is possibly bringing back the Challenger. If I can find it again, I saw a piece on the net about the concept, and it looks faithful to the '70 models. The GT-40 is my ultimate dream car though. I saw only one real GT-40 in my life and that was at a show three years ago. They brought it in an enclosed trailer, and had it roped off to the point where you could not get within 15 feet of the thing. Awesome stuff.

From what I understand, the Challenger is a go, and should be in production within the next 2 years.
I went to the Kansas City Auto Show about 2 weeks ago, and they had a new Ford GT there. Here's a photo:
