A single had to be Number One on the both sides of the Atlantic to become a mega hit. Choose your favourite one, please!

It was an extremely hard task to choose the one. My Top 5 would look something like this:

5) Runaway - Del Shannon (1961)
=) I Can't Stop Loving You - Ray Charles (1962)
4) House Of The Rising Sun - Animals (1964)
3) Hey Jude - Beatles (1968)
2) (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - Rolling Stones (1965)

and

1) Good Vibrations - Beach Boys (1966)

WAY too tough, but I eventually decided on a Beatles tune from the year I was born...

'A Hard Day's Night'

More difficulty...any of these are still listenable, despite the fact that I was only around for the last three years of that decade...

I went for...

'She Loves You' by The Beatles - simply because it still has the ability to sound different and new...which isn't bad considering it's over 40 years old...!!

For the same reason, 'Telstar' as follow-up

Easy choice for me, I had a cousin that used to watch my sister and I when we were little and he used to pick the geetar and sing this one all the time.

I was only seven years old when I first heard that song...now i'm 44 and that song still sounds AWESOME....!

Okay. Here's the deal.

I've edited the poll. You guys can now pick up to six songs (I know you were saying you wanted five, but I just thought you might wish to be slightly more generous with your thoughts and musings on this musical decade).

I hope this is satisfactory and will keep an eye out and post my thoughts in a minute.

as much as i was tempted to pick satisfaction by the stones, i chose Hey Jude, one of my all time favourites.

A few honourable mentions :

Im a Man - spencer Davis Group.
on the road again - canned Heat.

even though they werent no. 1 hits on both sides, they were still memorable songs.

A lot of really great songs. My favorite is "A Hard days Night".
