For me-it is a toss-up with Day-O, Jump in the Line and Jamaica Farewell.

'Day-O', or 'The Banana Boat Song' to give it it's other bit of title...a tad on the banal side, but it still works...!
As does Stan Freberg's hilarious send-up...('You're too piercing, man...!')

My pick: "Day-O", a.k.a. the "Banana Boat Song."

Hi Cat, you chose a great singer and performer in Harry Belafonte for your topic. His music was a nice change in the sound of music back in the 50's when Rock'n Roll was the main choice of music played on the air waves. His stage presents and Calypso sound broke down a lot of barriers back then and was accepted by everyone to where his popularity earned him his own TV show.
His "Day O" song, I think is his signature song, although Matilda was a song that got into your head that people just hummed without thinking. I like his version of "The Last Time I Saw Her" and I can still see Steve Martin trying to dance to "Jump Down, Turn Around" in his movie "The Jerk". ÂÂ
